I’ve been working on this for 2 years. There have bumps along the way, crazy drama that could be in a soap, but the time is now. Help me build a freedom school. Help me fight fascism:

When I think of violent criminals … Winnie the Pooh and Cookie Monster are top of the list.

Hide your honey and your baked goods!

Portland is rubbing off on Chicago. The inflatable animals have arrived at the Broadview ICE detention facility chanting “this is what democracy looks like”

I encourage everyone to support r. Hall's efforts. I have her first book, Wake. It's very well done. A historian who learns about women-led slave revolts through the archives.

1) Get rid of it: Columbus Day became a holiday in 1934 to honor Italian-Americans. Its main backers were the Knights of Columbus and rich guy Generoso Pope, who secured NY's Italian vote for FDR. Honoring Italian-Americans seems fine to me. But here's the deal: Columbus is the wrong guy for that./3

Time to re-start freedom schools nationwide. Our history has always been contraband.

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!!

The University of Texas-Austin is beginning a process to eliminate the Black Studies, Latino Studies, and Gender Studies departments in the College of Liberal Arts. This is a grave threat to the educational liberty of students, faculty, staff, and the people of Texas. 1/

NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.

Yeah, that's a great comparison.

But in addition to the money grift, he does a lot of fake native wisdom sharing, too. And scrapes other peoples' and tribes' stories, claming them as his own and/or from his own heritage.

Gross. And with Talcom X, Black women have been out here saying that man is a scam and then we get shouted down—by white people.

It’s the T͢a͢í͢n͢o͢ people of the Caribbean over the genocidal colonizers…

It’s the hypocrisy of “you will not replace us” while on stolen land…

It’s the history repeating…

It’s justice for the indigenous…all day every day.

Please remember that the disgust people have over Christopher Columbus is not based on some modern, 21st century “woke” ideology, but rather on contemporaneous accounts of atrocities that make many modern genocides appear quaint in comparison.

Below, are the accounts of Bartlomé de las Casas.
But too many of the slaves died in captivity. And so Columbus, desperate to pay back dividends to those who had in-vested, had to make good his promise to fill the ships with gold. In the province of Cicao on Haiti, where he and his men imagined huge gold fields to exist, they ordered all persons fourteen years or older to collect a certain quantity of gold every three months. When they brought it, they were given copper tokens to hang around their necks. Indians found without a copper token had their hands cut off and bled to death.
The Indians had been given an impossible task. The only gold around was bits of dust garnered from the streams. So they fled, were hunted down with dogs, and were killed. After each six or eight months' work in the mines, which was the time required of each crew to dig enough gold for melting, up to a third of the men died.
While the men were sent many miles away to the mines, the wives remained to work the soil, forced into the excruciating job of digging and making thousands of hills for cassava plants.
Thus husbands and wives were together only once every eight or ten months and when they met they were so exhausted and depressed on both sides... they ceased to pro-create. As for the newly born, they died early because their mothers, overworked and fam-ished, had no milk to nurse them, and for this reason, while I was in Cuba, 7000 children died in three months. Some mothers even drowned their babies from sheer desper-ation.... In this way, husbands died in the mines, wives died at work, and children died from lack of milk ... and in a short time this land which was so great, so powerful and fer-tile... was depopulated... My eyes have seen these acts so foreign to human nature, and now I tremble as I write....

. “Our first advice to people is to don't do this alone,” he said. “The feds seem to be more cautious when we are in groups, which makes perfect sense because they're bullies.”

My latest is the story of how my community has rallied to protect and defend our neighbors in recent days, as ICE has targeted the Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago. "This is not a story about a moment of victory, but a moment of being reminded of our power."
They Came for Our Neighbors. We Showed Up.
Before long, there were dozens, and then hundreds of people in the streets, watching and responding.
