I want more people to care that SNAP benefits are being cut off on November 1. 40% of SNAP beneficiaries are children. This is callous and vile.

Anyway, I have tofu/pumpkin mac and “cheese” for dinner. Your argument tried to pack its gear and slink away, but I invited it to dinner.

Literally none of these people are like "you know what, I understand why voters would be wary, and I'm gonna go do some public service to prove my bona fides."

And that's how you know they care about the power, not the service.
Graham Platner to @daveweigel.bsky.social:
"How do you expect to win back men when you go back through somebody’s Reddit history and just pull it all out and say: ‘Oh, my God, this person has no right to ever be in politics?’"

DSCC Chair Gillibrand: “It’s up to the voters of Maine to decide.”

Every now and then I go back and read the Citizens United ruling to see if it is as unhinged as I thought, and every time I do that I see it is actually far more deranged than I remembered.

This whole thread.

Catastrophic insurance ONLY works if you have the money to save in an HSA so that if you do have a catastrophe, you can pay the incredibly steep deductible, and also so that you can cover the cost of preventative care yourself. Otherwise it can still bankrupt you.
The reality is that catastrophic insurance is in fact just paying for insurance AND paying for your care out of pocket in most cases. And making people avoid preventative care because of the cost is how you end up in that catastrophe.

Many people are outraged that Trump is demolishing part of the White House. But of course Trump can't do it without help. It's ACECO LLC of Silver Spring MD ("full-service demolition") that is tearing down the People's House. You can call them and let them know how you feel. 1/

Joel Quenneville's return to Chicago last night might be the final time that the Brad Aldrich story is at the forefront of the hockey world's minds.

But we should never forget what we're moving on from.

Apart from donating to support Wikipedia, I'd recommend everyone download their app.

You'd be surprised how many web searches end up leading right to Wikipedia. Instead of going through Google and all its ads and AI blegh, you can get straight to Wikipedia that way. Convenient and useful!

So for-profit AI companies have trained on the world's largest collaborative volunteer project and a precious free resource, to make money for their for-profit enterprises. They have crushed traffic to the volunteer project, starving it of donors and volunteers

I just saw a photo of a chili charcuterie board and I am 100% here for that (meatless for me, please).
This. I have no issue with e-bikes on the greenways around here. It's the cyclists of all types (mostly the lycra-clad Chads), blazing by at high speed, putting pedestrians and pets sharing the paths at great risk. No one needs to go that fast on a quiet trail/path.
This article about risks of e-bikes on sidewalks or narrow trails raises a real issue — a heavier bike going 22-28mph can cause much greater harm if you knock someone over. But there’s no reflection from anyone quoted about why a teenager would ride on a sidewalk
www.startribune.com/minnesota-eb...
Hit by an e-bike, she can no longer taste or smell. Cities are trying to protect pedestrians like her.
After hearing Janet Stotko’s story, the city of Hastings passed an ordinance prohibiting e-bikes on sidewalks.

I've had to explain this to people most of my life. They assume Oregon is blue, but the further you get off of I-5 the redder it gets (with a few exceptions, and, yes, there are/were some red areas along I-5).
For context, we’re only a half hour from Portland, and when we had a local Black Lives Matter protest (a dozen people on the 2-lane highway with signs), more than one yelled the n-word at us. Things get bad fast in Oregon the further you get from Portland.

I’m happy to see the overwhelming numbers in big cities, but it’s these little rallies in purple/red areas that really matter, imho. People around here expect it from Portland, but when they see it in their communities, they know they’re outnumbered.
