seen a recent increase in leftist anti-covid-prevention takes. all i’m gonna say is I know people who’ve got long covid, they’re not making that shit up, and they feel utterly abandoned and betrayed by society. if you don’t know someone like that, you will someday. be safe out there, pals!
Long Covid Is Real — And It’s Changing an Entire Generation

Hundreds of thousands of kids in America are struggling with an illness that many doctors and schools refuse to recognize.e

Miss Major Griffin-Gracy passed away today according to the House of GG. She was a veteran of the Stonewall rebellion and a lifelong organizer for the safety and dignity of trans people, sex workers, and the incarcerated. She came from the same generation and milieu as Marsha and Sylvia. She was 78.
I genuinely adore that review from the person who paid $1400 to see Waiting for Godot and at intermission was like “this is a waste of my time” and left

I don't like him personally, but David Simon on AI is the final word on the subject.
I guess then people say or imply things with the plays they choose to make? Or maybe that’s just a continuation of doing things.

But I do think this is a bit semantics - do you get my intent here even if my words aren’t exact?
(I also think just a few years ago I wrote off plays as not saying anything, when what some of them were actually saying was “here is how to care for each other in the messiest of interpersonal circumstances”

and that can be a valuable lesson at anytime!)

Is this a thing people would like?
Brecht wouldn’t be happy with me, but that’s fine. Being a full human being means living in paradox.
but right now I need this play as much as I need the plays about climate change, about organizing and labor, about war and genocide, about complicity and complacency.

I need both.
and look, candidly, I’m biased! I’m working on a fun play right now that takes place in a fantasy world where trans people can search for love and the audience knows everything will end up okay
I am very suspicious of theatres and producing orgs that Only put forward plays that ignore the problems of our time!

but I’m not convinced producing or writing one fun play is equivalent to ignoring our world’s problems
if you had asked me just five years ago if there was room for fun, silly, rompish plays that don’t “Say Anything,” I probably would’ve said no but I’ve really come around on this
I will recommend Peking Opera Blues to anyone who will listen
my picks for what to watch this weekend, selected from the Criterion Channel's amazing Hong Kong Classics collection. most are also streaming elsewhere, if you are not a Criterion subscriber (but if there was ever a month to be one...) pvguide.ghost.io/weekend-watc...

#OtD 22 Sep 1962 Italian director Pier Paolo Pasolini punched a fascist who had confronted him outside the premiere for his film, Mamma Roma. Pasolini's radical politics and openness about his homosexuality made him a frequent target of the right stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/9526...
