Last night @bostonschools.boston.gov made recommendations to the school committee that will double down on exclusionary policies for the city's "exam schools".

We are *addicted* to the idea of merit – because it's easier to pick "winners" than provide an equitable education for all students.

They will paint these Young Republicans as children while legislating that actual children be treated like adults in the justice system.

Because, again, MAGA decides who gets to be a child.

The subtext of this comment is that the Mayor of Boston is Asian-American, whereas the Mayor of Chicago (like almost everyone else that Trump refers to as “a low IQ person”) is Black.

NEW — I dug into the story of ICE abducting a 13-year-old boy in Massachusetts and moving him 500 miles across state lines without notifying his mother, local cop's complicity, and how the federal government's justification for such cruelty is already falling apart:
ICE took a 13-year-old they said had a gun. Local cops say he didn’t.
Now he's detained 500 miles away from his Massachusetts home.

This is the same BS Marty Walsh spouted when the school-to-prison pipeline (the BRIC gang database in that instance) triggered the deportation of a Boston student during Trump 1.

School disciplinary policies have ripple effects. When you criminalize kids, you throw them into a merciless system.

Carlo DeMaria, Mayor of Everett, said police followed standard procedure and did not contact ICE but ICE has "the authority to access certain law enforcement databases and take action on its own accord. He said city has "no authority or control over what happens next" once ICE steps in.

My latest is the story of how my community has rallied to protect and defend our neighbors in recent days, as ICE has targeted the Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago. "This is not a story about a moment of victory, but a moment of being reminded of our power."

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.
