The dems are so obsessed with copying conservatives they are even getting their own politicians with secret nazi tattoos

Graduate seminar did a deep dive on Thomas Paine’s Common Sense yesterday. At the line, “in America the law is king,” they (14 students from 6 countries) burst out laughing. I've been doing this for 35 years and this is the first time that was a laugh line.

At this point Platner isn't just a guy with a Nazi tattoo, he's a guy who inspired a bunch of people ranging from centrist to leftist to start defending having political candidates / elected officials with Nazi tattoos. We need a clean break with that.
I think that would have to include stepping down as a candidate for me to take it seriously. Anything short of that, to me, indicates he still doesn't quite grasp how big a fuck-up this was (to put it generously!) and its awful impact.
I don’t think it’s unclassy at all, personally. Knowing yourself and being honest with yourself is always classy
Dark Academia is just Academia that we’ve recognized sucks, but can’t explain why except vibes
This is like if someone made the Pokemon game that all the urban legends were about

every american is a temporarily embarrassed operator turned lifestyle influencer
You can always tell when someone is full of shit about their claims of ruthless practicality and disinterested strategizing on the big picture when they seem to invest their entire selves into a cause well past the point of it becoming untenable

#OtD 21 Oct 1929 anarchist, feminist, sci-fi and fantasy novelist Ursula K. Le Guin was born in Berkeley, California. We have made available some of her little-known works in our online store. Check them out here: shop.workingclasshistory.com/collections/...
Oh my god! I’m so sorry that happened

Hey party people, someone broke in while I was sleeping and stole my laptop. My books are all backed up, thank God, but my renter's insurance has a high deductible and if you like my work I'd appreciate some support right now

But what if I instead cynically use this coordinated attack on our community by reactionaries who have captured our institutions to score points against other portions of the community I have completely unrelated grievance with, all under the guise of academic rigor
*looks up progression fantasy*

Well, I suppose that technically is a type of progression
Your domicile’s opulence should be inversely proportionate to the amount of power you wish to have over your fellow humans. I’m thinking a cinderblock shoebox would be more appropriate lately
The White House pics don’t upset me because we shouldn’t be indulging would-be presidents’ aristocratic ambitions by putting them in a gilded neo-classical mansion
I have like the opposite of a corruption kink, whatever that is

Israel has broken its agreement and resumed its active torture of the Palestinians. Please give what you can to help my friend Sama'a and her family survive.
Israel has sealed Gaza’s borders again, no aid, no food, no medicine. We're being starved, not by fate, but by force. My family is trapped in this nightmare. If you still believe in humanity, please help us survive. Every donation is a lifeline.💔

I will never shut up about ressentiment. Such a useful concept
The fact that they feel they have to pull out the whole editorial board to argue this is evidence that this narrative is beginning to slip. Triangulating to the center has been treated as such an obvious sensible choice that it did not even need to be argued as long as I’ve been alive
I just did a jump scare and @joshgondelman.bsky.social asked me what was wrong.

Modern advertising is an act of violence. I don't mean this in a hyperbolic way. I mean most ads are physically and mentally harmful to their audience.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?
