There's a rumor swirling around that Graham Potter might be brought in as the new manager.

It was on Sky, so maybe take it with a grain of salt.

They're the most fun sports show and all four of them seem to be having a blast. One of my favorite clips is when Carragher's daughter calls during the show and he picks up.

Incidentally, I think she's going by Kate Scott now after her recent marriage.

AI is a race against time, but not for consumers but the companies themselves.

Every AI company is driven by the poisoned concept of "first to market". The product doesn't need to be good or even complete, it just needs to be everywhere.

AI is presented as a race against time. Problem is, it's rigged.

The pitch is "once it reaches a certain level, it will fix the problems it creates and also all other problems."

The rigged part is that there is zero evidence that LLMs are a path to something that could DO THAT.

It's a scam.

I have two and one isn't much of a surprise.

A well constructed latte. One where the espresso cuts through the steamed milk and has a silky feel.

The second? A glass of milk and saltine crackers. A snack from my childhood that I still do today.

What are your food "simple pleasures"?

For me, it's opening a fresh, brand new jar of peanut butter. What about you?

You could have the most technically accurate description of a beer, someone who is matched as a perfect fit, and there's still odds the person will go "eh, not for me."

So what is the point of an AI app. People are not looking for their forever beer, they want the experience.

In this case, the claim was to match drinkers with the Brewers they would most enjoy. Fine, it's an okay reason, but it's also a near impossible task when taste is a very subjective thing.

Not only that, people enjoy figuring that out for themselves. It's a part of the enjoyment.

Something common I see in a lot of areas is that AI is pushed into the space of enthusiasts without consultation or consent.

Even when the aims are not data farming or profit, the people pushing AI never ask the simplest question. They never ask why.

For months I've been following what happened when a company forced AI into the world of craft beer. Legal threats, people quitting, and beer judges in revolt over being told to use AI.

"It is attempting to solve a problem that wasn’t a problem before AI showed up"

What Happened When AI Came for Craft Beer
A prominent beer competition introduced an AI-judging tool without warning. The judges and some members of the wider brewing industry were pissed.

Happy birthday! October is the best birthday month, but I am biased (also October).

I've been fearing this from the beginning.

I have some self interest because I'm a special education teacher, but I can't imagine what this is going to do to families affected my this.

Even under good situations, there's still rights to be fought for. This makes it so much worse.

The end of federal enforcement of special ed laws. Some states - including MN - will likely be ok. But a lot of disabled kids in a lot of states are going to lose the education that federal law and decades of jurisprudence say they are owed.

On the way home from the barn I heard a This American Life piece by a guy who had an AI clone of himself call his friends to have conversations and I would just like to state now that if anyone ever does this to me, we will no longer be friends. WTF is this world where we outsource all interaction?

Mamdani talking lucidly and passionately about trans rights and history in a video that should frankly shame every politician who has hemmed and hawed and triangulated and said, "Well, but sports..." It's not that hard to tell the truth and stand for what's right. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEvV...

One upside of this whole Bari Weiss bullshit is that every time I see one of her memos,I feel better about my own writing.

Every time my imposter's syndrome pops up, I can look at this and say "can you believe someone is sending this shit out to a professional newsroom?"
