For my new Bluesky peeps, a new introduction. I currently write science fiction. My debut project, The Cluster Cycle, is a spare opera pentalogy featuring old stories with sci-fi twists. Enjoy!

I also really liked Rick Hollon's poem "Shapeshifters' Local" which is kind of about liminal beings in folklore finding power and community with each other after getting a bad reputation thanks to the abuses of the more powerful gods. There's an organizing aspect to the piece that is empowering

Book Quote Wednesday's word is 'gold' #BookQW
Sometimes doing the 'right thing' is a terrible burden for someone. For Gaspard Atarex, it is almost impossible to bear.
#writingcommunity #scifi #SpaceOpera
Gaspard looked up with blurry eyes. “Yeah? What is it, oh, grand Mercedes Solari? Want a drink?”
“No. I wanted to see you.”
“You’ve seen me. That’s all sorted. Hey.” He seemed struck by a thought. “I didn’t ever get to see the penal mine shafts. They always told me there was gold down there. Never got to find out. Heh. Laughable.”
He struggled to make a sound like laughter, then burbled and hid his face. Mercedes struggled to hide her disgust at his condition.
“You seem more than distressed. I would think you were glad to leave that place.”
Gaspard answered dryly, his voice slurring, his blurry eyes staring directly at Mercedes. “Oh sure I’m distressed. That place was one of the only jobs I could get along with scraping out engine coils. I’ve thrown it up, let my co-workers die, helped some Kavki bitches kill my superior. Then there’s you, a prisoner for whom I gave up more than she’ll want to know to survive that hell. And here I am, drinking shit and getting hollow sympathy.”
“You might not be as drunk as you seem. I know that defense. Cruel
words may be taken lightly when spoken through a fog of alcohol.”

My immediate thought on seeing the headline: "Oh yes, take this troubled, poorly used woman who is hardly ever talked about beyond how she looks, and put her into a regurgitation algorithm. Lovely."

New #BookReview!

Today on the blog I have YA lunarpunk sci-fantasy adventure, The Secret of the Sapphire Sentinel by @jendiagammon.bsky.social — a sequel I've very much been looking forward to, and it didn't disappoint.

Honestly, I have just watched PushingUpRoses's video on the X-Files episode "Home", and yikes was this a disturbing and unintentionally funny addendum.

Today in an episode of ‘kill your darlings’ I present a wonderful sentence that I love which the scene does not need at all:

“Their strange, beleaguered dialogue pressed forward with halting slowness.”

Since the article itself is paywalled... my new novel is called THIS IS WHERE THE FUTURE BLEEDS, which @losbennett.bsky.social sold to @titanbooks.bsky.social earlier this year. It's a fantasy adventure in a queer-normative world featuring fractured futures, sapphic romance, and giant wasps.
