So Jurassic Park is about a group of rich people who don't understand that biology is far more complicated than "there are only two genders" and how this ignorance toward gender fluidity in nature causes these rich people to lose their money and die.
Love that we’re firmly on the path for Blade Runner 2049 becoming a documentary

@datadoghq.com's docs and setup for adding an integration to the Ruby tracer are pretty great. Happy I was able to turn around some prototype code into an actual PR in a few days!
Shoutouts to the Datadog team for making it remarkably easy to write + submit an integration. Hopefully this will get merged in soon!

Make sure you’re doing automatic backups and storing them offsite, such as on S3! Eat your veggies! Stay in School!
And this is coming from someone who LOATHES PHP 😝
An excellent choice IMO!

The modern ones, while cool from a technical perspective, require too much fuckery & tooling.

Phpbb is old & reliable, which is what you want as an independent operator where this isn’t your dayjob
Happy to be bugged if you need a sounding board for tech stuff!

What’s the forum software you’re using?

repost this if an editor has ever saved you from yourself
An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

We did a limited alpha release of our new Linux client last month and are actively pushing towards a wider beta release. We learned a lot from our first stab which had a host of issues, but don't worry, we're back at it with purpose 🙂
Are there any @tuple.app-grade alternatives that offer Linux support (or even *plan* to) aside from Hopp?

Tuple used to have a beta for Linux, but it silently got dropped and it doesn't appear to be on the roadmap anymore. 😭

Whenever someone uses Ghibli or Miyazaki as a synonym for "quaint, charming, unthreatening" I'm always like "bro did we watch the same movies?"
every ai bro who has reduced miyazaki to empty gentle aesthetic should no exaggeration get the judas cradle bc this man's markmaking & passion about telling WAR STORIES

It’s not really commented on, but there is essentially no original culture in 2049. Everything is a copy of a copy of a copy. It’s not just a dying world, it’s a culturally dead world.
One of the biggest reasons I find Blade Runner 2049 to be significantly better than the original is the way it hits the nail on the head here. It’s a portrait of our worst impulses in modern culture, taken to their natural conclusion.
Using AI to keep watching videos of a dead person is frankly sinister. Just reveals a culture obsessed iwth never moving forward or looking ahead, just wallowing in increasingly degraded and unnatural rehashes of its own memories
Zelda Williams urges fans to stop sending AI videos of her father, Robin Williams:

“Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad. Stop believing I wanna see it or that I’ll understand, I don’t and I won’t. If you’re just trying to troll me, I’ve seen way worse, I’ll restrict and move on.”

So much love for XO Ruby! We'll have more for y'all to come to real soon ✨

We should value textile artists more. As a society. Through expressions of monetary value. As far as products of human design and skill and labor go, textiles provide the most comfort per dollar per square centimeter.
How much stock do you put into Cumulative Layout Shift? I’ve got a site that AFAICS is pretty damn stable, but Lighthouse has its CLS marked at ~0.3. Not to mention the oscillations it has on repeat runs
