Just imagine sitting in that room with him as he brings out his guitar.

Well, it was Carling, but I understand the confusion.

Loved seeing your band at the Carling Academy in 2002.

“No Kings” is great , but we really don't get a functioning democracy back until we internalize, bone deep, the instinctive response to this and every other statement like it: “I don’t care what that rich guy thinks.”

Make it your morning affirmation. Say it ten times at the top of every hour.

This is great news. We've hired the classicist Spencer Klavan to teach at New College of Florida. Goodbye gender studies; hello, Greek literature.

Truly excited to be teaching an online survey course in Greek literature this fall semester @NewCollegeofFL. Even more excited that it's open to the public. Please join in here! We'll be reading Homer, Aeschylus, Aristophanes, and lots more.

How can AI replace a historian? There's a fundamental misunderstanding of what these jobs actually are.

Ah, sorry, I assumed we were playing with the Original Modern Rules.

See if you make an announcement such as “There is fixed, structural damage in the ticket hall at Mornington Crescent” I am going to spend the next 35 minutes trying to decode it

I suspect Nigel is going to find that there isn't the same religious zeal in the UK as there is in the US, no matter how much they try to manufacture it.

People are always rightly pointing out that Warhammer contributes more to the British economy than the fishing industry, but the problem is that there just aren't very many folk songs about Warhammer

How do method actors rationalise any of the other shit on a movie set?

"Why have these people taken me, Ares, to a luxury trailer and asked for my lunch order?"
ladyemily.nebula.tv
Finding out that Jared Leto kept doing his method acting shit and insisted on staying in character on the set of Tron Ares and would only answer to the name of Ares is so funny, like making a big ass douche of yourself for the third Tron movie where you play “computer program that gains feelings”

But maybe I just need to go back and read again. I'm sure they employ better editors than me.

Just finished The Impossible Fortune, the latest Thursday Murder Club novel. The last couple had become a little over-cluttered with characters so this one was refreshingly stripped back. However, it seemed like there were a couple of plot developments that came from nowhere which niggled a little.

Starring in a Channel 5 Death in Paradise rip-off feels like a bit of a backwards step. He should never have played a policeman again after A Touch of Cloth.

Still, everybody's happy to be working.

It's driving me mad. I made a mental note of it to write it down because it was so interesting and then forgot. Now time has passed. Could be Eric Idle, Doug Naylor or another person I listened to. But I'll track it down.

The addition of a few classic comedy series on BBCiPlayer does give a chance to finally watch the first episode of what were staples as a kid. Its funny having known what the set-up was as a kid to actually see the episodes that establish it. "To The Manor Born" is a surprisingly smart little script

I think this is a good example of people losing really simple skills. I still know all the numbers of my childhood friends. Imagine how stupid you'll get if you use ChatGPT to do everything.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?
