At his WH briefing, Trump spoke, noted NYT, of delivering "seemingly impossible price reductions, such as a '654 percent discount'" on an AstraZeneca inhaler.

Why "seemingly"? As any math teacher knows, claims of 100%+ price cuts are 100% impossible.

In which Vance calls @propublica.org -- recipient of the Pulitzer for Public Service two years running -- a "left wing blog" and then admits on national TV that he hasn't read the very story he's dismissing.

Here's the story, btw:

Trump knows he was president on Jan. 6. He’s simply lying to rewrite the history of his attempted coup.

Just like Trump knew he lost the 2020 election and lied to fraudulently subvert the results.

A few blocks from me here in Philly, an FBI agent randomly shot and killed a dog in front of its owner on the sidewalk because it growled at her dog. The police... Took a report and the DA did nothing.
FBI agent who shot, killed dog in Philadelphia will not face charges
On Friday, the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office confirmed Jacqueline Maguire would not be charged but did not say why.

At least half a dozen companies vying for some of the $45B allocated for immigration detention work hired a friend of border czar Tom Homan because that friend (who previously had Homan on his payroll) led them to believe his connections to Homan would help their chances of scoring a contract.
Trading on Tom Homan: Inside the Push to Cash in on the Trump Administration’s Deportation Campaign
A Pennsylvania businessman who had Tom Homan on his payroll led companies to believe his connections to the future border czar could help advance their bids for government work, industry executives sa...

New from me at Cato: I go through the numerous and massive First Amendment and academic-freedom violations of Trump's proffered "compact" with universities and then talk about the mechanism by which it would be enforced, by way of what I describe as a "retroactive push-button guillotine."
Universities Must Defend Their Independence by Rejecting Trump's "Compact"
The Trump administration has proffered a “compact” to universities that would require them to surrender their independence and academic freedom. How many First Amendment violations can we identify in ...

I keep thinking about how this shutdown feels so different and I think it comes down to this — the administration is already basically ignoring laws and appropriations etc. A shutdown doesn’t feel as consequential when things are already bashed up and the plan is to do that more.

One fed employee told me the internal conversations feel very different from previous shutdowns.

"Every other fed I've talked to agrees how much it sucks to be furloughed, but also that this shutdown needs to continue until the administration starts respecting the rule of law," said a NOAA employee. "Even the conservative Republicans."
