It boggles my mind that the hammer and sickle is considered a socially acceptable symbol, but then braindead people probably find history difficult to digest.

I grew up with a kid who developed a weird oral fixation in elementary school, it’s like he was compelled to chew on plastic. His pencils never had any tooth marks but he’d constantly gnaw on his pens, it was normal to see him with ink stains all over his face and clothes.

We saw that in the US too, women’s suffrage groups deliberately excluded Black, Native and many immigrant women.

DW Griffith directed BIRTH OF A NATION (1915), a virulently racist film (and neither his first nor his last one of those) that saw racist violence follow wherever it was screened.

So, naturally, there are film bros and gals who think we should "ignore the racism" and keep it in the canon.

Yeah, if you’re not familiar with it you start to wonder if Japan has any faith in its children.

Japanese age guidelines on toys factor in other safety hazards like flammability and toxic chemicals, 15+ means there’s something about it that poses a health risk to children 14 and under. Anything that’s just a possible choking hazard is usually rated Ages 6+.
thedanklark.bsky.social
I know this one! In Japan the age guidelines on toys include flammability and chemical composition in addition to choking hazards, “Ages 15+” in this case most likely means the plastic and/or paint is potentially toxic to children 14 and under if its ingested.

I got a rare Jack while in Japan and I gotta ask: are 14 year olds there really not to be trusted to not put this in their mouth and choke to death on it?
A small Jack Skellington figure. He's in his pajamas he wears for a single scene lol The back of the box warns that the toy is a choking hazard, and is generally for AGES 15+

I saw a couple walking down the street yesterday evening who were dressed like JC Penney catalog models circa 1998 and it was all I could do to not bust out laughing.

I still don't get it - those are things people do for fun, to express themselves and to develop skills - but I guess it explains why his reaction to AI isn't to run away screaming.
As mine is:

Google's "AI summaries" now come with links to what's ostensibly their source material, so you can check how good the "summary" is.

I googled "magnetic fields bassist" the other day, being curious about who'd played bass with the Magnetic Fields in their early gigs. AI Summary says: Dave Hernandez.

This guy is in ruaa’s fucking comments harassing her.

Supporting a genocide isn’t enough, he’s got to mock the victims personally

Is it the cruelty that gets you off, is that why you’re like this?

“No Kings” is great , but we really don't get a functioning democracy back until we internalize, bone deep, the instinctive response to this and every other statement like it: “I don’t care what that rich guy thinks.”

Make it your morning affirmation. Say it ten times at the top of every hour.

FINDS THEM AND KILLS THEM

"Finds Them and Kills Them (Osh-Tisch) looked like a man, but wore women's clothing and had the heart of a woman.... she was brave and good."
― Pretty Shield

Her strength as a warrior is what earned her the name Osh-Tisch, which translates to “finds them and kills them."
Who is Osh-Tisch?
Osh-Tisch was a Apsáalooke Badé, a role within the Crow Nation that defied traditional gender norms, embodying both masculine and feminine qualities. Before colonization, Badé were deeply respected for their unique spiritual gifts, artistry, and contributions to community life.
As a Badé, Osh-Tisch carried responsibilities tied to culture, ceremony, and social balance. Their life shows how many of our nations embraced gender diversity long before Western colonial powers imposed rigid binaries.

Fenway health in Boston has stopped providing gender affirming care to trans youth.

I was previously on the board of this organization and I've never been so disgusted with their leadership cowardly capitulating like this.
Alt text:
Statement from Fenway Health explaining that due to new federal requirements effective October 1, 2025, they can no longer provide medical gender-affirming care such as hormones and puberty blockers to patients under 19, but all other services for patients of all ages will continue unchanged.
