I like cats He/Him If you do not support the universality of human rights, you're a monster. If you support governments that commit genocide, you're a monster. Far too many individuals are unable to rise above those VERY low bars.

Unpopular opinion: "a nation only for [X] people, where only [X] people can be citizens" is bad, regardless of which group [X] represents.

Supremacy is bad, regardless of the group which expresses it, and it is outright unacceptable when codified into policy or law.

It's a small thing - but every extra minute they spend on one detention is one less minute they get to spend on another detention. In many areas Ice and DHS have moved to trying to be much more stealthy, I'm imagining in part cause it's hard to hit your numbers when every detention draws a crowd.

A lot of folks may think that just yelling at ICE agents is ineffective, but consider the cumulative psychological toll of being yelled at EVERY DAY when trying to do shit. Even the biggest asshole in the world who doesn't give a shit about other people will feel the pressure.
More from the scene
Ah, but they know that even if, somehow, the Democrat party manages to regain the presidency and whatever is left of congress that there will be no meaningful consequences of any kind. There never are. The Democrat party is incapable of applying consequences to anyone in power who isn't progressive.

Being a lawyer right now is weird because you're sitting waiting multiple years for an Appellate Court to rule on basic shit, meanwhile SCOTUS rules every ten seconds that a different precedent doesn't mean what it very clearly says

Private prison executives casually discussed the "3,000 arrests per day" quota in earnings calls—despite the Department of Justice previously denying any quota exists. This is fueling immigration raids nationwide while companies rake in record profits.
In Earnings Calls, Private Prison Executives Revel in Profiting Off ICE Arrests
“Our business is perfectly aligned with the demands of this moment,” CoreCivic CEO Damon Hininger said on the call.

Wanna know what most people care about? Not being able to afford insurance, the cost of living, the corporate-manufactured housing crisis, poverty, hunger, out-of-control cops and feds, normalized bigotry and hate, etc. The ballroom means jack shit to most people.

Democrats need to wake TF up.

Half the people killed by police have a disability, and a large proportion of those are Autistic.

Time for a re-watch of my favorite “don’t talk to cops” video - a real law school class being taught by a defense attorney and a former cop in law school.

Long, but completely worth it:

This leads me to believe that any change would require a complete abolition of the current system so that it can be replaced with a better, more constructive one.

Personally, from what I've seen from behavioral research done in correctional facilities and with the military and police forces, while the military appears willing to make some minimal changes, the police force and justice system does not.

They believe that "outsiders" shouldn't have an opinion.

It’s an interesting variable level of insight to that fact when it comes to the individual people, it seems

Implicit bias is insidious

Cognitive distortions are strong

Generational trauma is a beast

I hope the pendulum begins the swing in the other direction soon

The police force across the US was established to protect the wealthy and their property (which, yes, included slaves as far as they were concerned).

They still often function as a security force for the wealthy who do side jobs solving crimes, but their goal is to close the case, not be right.

How many docuseries suggest autistic people trying to be helpful end up arrested?

& convicted?

I can think of one especially where I think she’s innocent & was afraid & wanted to help them catch the right killer

& now she’s in prison

I’ll refrain from armchair diagnosis but - don’t talk to cops!

So I will not speak to you.”

when an attorney shows up, if they’re good, they will also tell you, do not talk to cops!

My autistic comrades : do not talk to cops!

Communication w/ double empathy problem at its most dangerous!
Scripts to say something & then shut up:

I invoke my right to be silent without an attorney present
& I do not have an attorney
so I will be silent.

Am I under arrest? May I leave?

say them out loud. practice them. you want them to fly from your lips so you may swiftly zip them. be safe, fellas 🫶

You know the part of the cop show where they invoke right to an attorney & one shows up in a couple hours?

Yeah that’s not really how it works

You will need to be quiet for a long time

They may make you feel like you need to get your own lawyer & maybe you do!

But maybe you end up waiting it out

This is not legal and they do have resources to shift that ensure SNAP benefits are paid. They are choosing to take food away from nearly 42 million Americans, which includes nearly 1 in 4 children.
7+ million people on the streets scared the Regime and now they are implementing the mechanisms to break their spirit, and this is it.
If you're too busy looking for food you're too busy to protest.

We know that all too well.

This is a heads-up from a Brazilian friend, that have seen that up close
US Department of Agriculture says no food aid benefits will be issued next month
The U.S. Department of Agriculture said on Saturday that food benefits under one of the country's biggest social assistance programs will not be issued next month amid the ongoing federal government shutdown.

Nine months ago I put most of my hope in major institutions continuing to hold fascism in check, but had little expectation that regular people with little to no power would step up and put themselves at risk.

I had it exactly backward.
signs like these are up all over Chicago cafes and storefronts (here, cafes in Brighton Park and Back of the Yards) warning ICE not to enter without a judicial warrant
Hey USians: you know how you keep saying a general strike isn't possible because people couldn't afford it?

GUESS WHERE YOU ARE ANYWAYS
Furloughed federal workers in Maryland line up for their local food bank.

Federal workers make considerably more money than those on SNAP.

If they can’t afford groceries, what hope do the 40 million Americans about to lose food assistance have?
