I make a living writing science fiction and fantasy. Mostly fantasy. It's been said I've never met a trope I didn't skewer. I'm good with that. Also, there's cats. And knitting. she/her

For a short time, I worked for a guy who'd built a bunker by burying school busses. I was not invited to tour it. 😭
Today's word is GOLD. Today's quote from the e-collection SWAN'S BRAID AND OTHER TALES OF TERIZAN. It seemed like the logical choice. Terizan is, after all, a thief, & she's fond of gold. Very fond. Maybe a little too fond. Dangerously fond...

Available digitally worldwide. Shop indie if you can.
Digital cover of Swan's Braid in the lower left over a spill of gold coins taken from that cover. Vaguely Middle Eastern buildings in the background.

The stairs broadened as they descended. Level ground was a six foot wide corridor, tile not stone and judging from the small section they
could see, probably beautiful.
   "No turns," Terizan murmured.
   "How can you tell?"
"The way the sound travels. Stay close." She'd counted forty-nine paces when something up ahead reflected back a glimmer of light. "Gold."
"That's it then." As Jameel surged past her, she heard a tiny click.
Sweeping his feet out from under him, she got him flat on the floor just in time.

Carney’s strategy is the exact opposite of what Canadians voted for. It’s clear that he’s making many unacknowledged/unexplained assumptions, while ignoring many obvious risks.
Mark Carney is not the CEO of Canada. He’s an elected leader. He needs to explain himself to Canadians.

Hey, I know books are expensive and money is tight right now.

But if there's a brand new book you really wanna read — including my own Lessons in Magic and Disaster — you can help get the book into way more hands by requesting it from your local library!

It's easy! Check your library's website.
Oh dear lord, the two of you walking together would be exciting. A thing I have said to Seanan while walking to a Wendy's: "Seanan! Do not put that unidentified berry in your mouth!" And, "No, we don't have time to explore the deserted factory!"
And I said, "How are you going to rebuild without women?"

It had never occurred to him that the complete lack of women in this scenario could be a limitation post-apocalyptically.

It hadn't occurred to me that corporals don't argue with admirals... 2/2
Back in '76, we had an admiral grace our very small station on Nov 11. I was one of the enlisted chosen to sit at his table during the meal after the service. At one point he announced, "In the case of a nuclear war, the navy will head out to sea to save the technology so we can rebuild." 1/2
And I yours on hogs. :)
Today's word is STRONG. Today's #Bookqw from THE SILVERED, an Aurora Award winning fantasy that takes place in the liminal space between magic & technology. Includes shifters, social commentary on shoes, & a part written for a younger Sean Bean.

Available digitally worldwide. ($9.99 CAD)
On the left, the digital cover of THE SILVERED: A wolf's head made of lines of light against a dark blue/purple background. The small text over the wolf's nose mentions that it won the Aurora Award for best novel.

The lieutenant opened his mouth, but before he could speak, before he could make a smarmy pronouncement on what Kirstin had done, before he could claim her pain as his, Danika said softly, "They have very good hearing, our beasts."
The lieutenant's mouth snapped shut. He glanced up at the darkening sky with wide eyes, looked for a moment as if he were about to order a march through the night, then he snarled, "Get those fires lit!" Turned and strode to the other side of the camp. Danika glanced at the sergeant, who nodded.
     "Jasine?"
"Pulse is fast but strong. Her nose is bleeding, but I think l'II stop soon enough. The net's left white lines on her fingertips."
     "Burns?"
     "More like frostbite."
Also, I like the dark wood against the pale walls.
I swear we weren't out of the room for more than ten minutes when Max challenged gravity.
We took down one of the bookcases and she was fine. Pissed, because it was obviously our fault. But fine.
Cows will occasionally glance back, calculate the angles, and aim right at your armpit while you're putting the milker on thereby kicking you over the gutter and slamming you into the barn wall. Just for fun.

Too late for me, but self milking barns are tech done right.
When we were putting my office together, we had lunch before we covered that corner. Max fell in.
