I am seeing a lot of people reposting Lakota Man today bc it's Indigenous Peoples Day. A reminder that he is not well liked amongst many (most?) Natives on social media. Many of us blocked him a long time ago. Some of the reasons why are in this article.

A useful framework for finding people:
- 2-3 mentors in the next role you *think* you want, at least one of which you can vent to openly when angry
- 1-2 mentors 2-3 levels more senior / in your late career 'dream' role (you will get little time with them)
- 1+ who are very social/good advocates

Had this conversation back with data sci people and “intermediate/advanced” level resource are both underserved and relatively less sought out. Tons of focus on getting in and a little more focus on “being a leader”

This week in 1988: 1,000+ ACT UP demonstrators shut down the FDA headquarters, demanding (and eventually winning) action on developing HIV/AIDS treatments. ACT UP's militant and creative actions always included powerful visual artwork, and paved the way for movements in the decades to come.

Piggybacking on this to share a story I overheard today. Lady in front of me was USAID. Got fired while she and her family were stationed overseas. Kicked out of their home and kids pulled from school. Moved back here, living in a shared apartment, and she’s selling things on Etsy to get by. 💔😡

it actually offends me how sloppy and careless they are. anyone who’s ever been laid off knows the panic you feel when it happens. and while obviously it’s good that they backtracked, these are people’s fucking LIVELIHOODS they’re messing with.

Last week I was talking to someone who has lived his entire life in our little town. I mentioned the FDA and he said, “what’s that again?”
