I met a pacer at the Mikeller Run Club 7 years ago before the marathon I ran. I didn't find out what speed he was pacing but I did learn he was suffering from IT band syndrome. Later on I would learn what that meant when it struck me as well. Oh and they're volunteers. No pay.

Police officers who publicly declare that they’ll quit if a mayoral candidate they dislike wins the election are (1) usually bluffing—sure buddy, toss away that paycheck and pension—and (2) exactly the sort of cops cities would be better off without, ones who don’t see themselves as public servants.

Looks like the 5 hour pacer was a casualty by the Elk's Memorial which is pretty early in the Chicago Marathon. Maybe around the 4 mile mark.

The day I got the longspur & bunting flock I also got a northern harrier, long eared owl, short eared owl, bald eagle and a red-tailed hawk when I was almost home. It was during a polar vortex so those sightings were earned through proper Chicago winter punishment!

What for algae piles on the public beach caused by northerly winds. The longspurs, bunting and larks are fans. Also helps to go very early before dogwalkers spook the birds.
