This is a cool idea and despite my near-certainty that I'll eventually miss a day and feel bad, I'm going to give it a shot.

Get to know my game taste in 365 games!

For 2025, I'm going to post every day about a game that has been meaningful to me. Might not be the "best" games, or even my "favorites," but they're all ones that have stuck with me in one way or another, in rough ascending order of impact.

It’s so funny how we got a thousand credulous op-eds about how Charlie’s death cut deep because he was practically a son to Donald and then he shows up to the memorial like “welp guess he shoulda ducked like I did lol”

Trump at the Charlie Kirk memorial event: "They fired sniper rifles at ICE agents, and me. But I made a turn at a good time. I made a turn at a good time. Charlie couldn't believe it, actually."

Lots of young people (and especially young men) go through an edgelord phase and then grow out of it. A big problem right now that we need to solve is that an entire political party encourages and rewards edgelord shitposting, so it's no longer seen as a thing to grow out of.

286. Team Fortress 2

I was obsessed with this game for a year. Unfortunately, I was playing on Xbox 360, which did not get much post-launch support and suffered a dwindling player base. To my credit, I was *very* good among 360 players. Sort of a big fish in a small pond situation.

285. Torchlight

As of the time this came out, Diablo 3 hadn't, so it was seen as beating Blizzard to the punch. I actually hadn't played a Diablo before so this was my first proper intro to the genre. I like its Steampunk vibe that differentiates it, but Torchlight 3 was not great.

284. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

What if you could pull a got danged Star Destroyer out of the got danged sky? That was basically the pitch. An in-canon (kinda) story about Vader's OP apprentice. It's a little silly now but it as great fun rag-dolling Stormtroopers around.

283. Retro Game Challenge

Backing up to DS because I remembered this little gem. It was sort of a fake retro compilation with play-alikes for classic games, with a little in-universe fiction including magazines. Anyone who knows my affection for UFO 50 should be able to understand this.

282. WarioWare DIY

Before Roblox and Fortnite there was a big stir over "UGC" or User Generated Content. See, the players make the games for you! WarioWare was a cool direction for this with simple logic strings and pre-made assets. I suspect it's ho we later got Game Builder Garage.

281. Mega Man 10

I'm not sure why they did the 8-bit gimmick twice. The first time it was novel (but bonkers hard) and the second time it was less so. A better-made game, altogether, because it learned the lessons of the first, but the novelty wasn't there a second time around.

28. October Panic

An impulse purchase meant to be played in one sitting, which probably takes like 30-40 minutes. So not a lot to it but cute art and fun seasonal flavor. The Dracula power-up is so OP that it's never worth picking up anything else.

I maintain that the best thing about that stupid-ass event was the great illustration of Spidey getting his ass beat within an inch of his life and still getting back up.

Second place is the Phoenix costume designs.

End of list.

The X political position in the big AvX crossover event was so obviously lopsidedly wrong that it as impossible to take their side, and has only gotten more so in light of real-life events.

"Should being legit under threat entitle you to a world-ending superweapon and no oversight?" fuckin'... no.

What's an opinion about X-Men that'll get you sent to jail? Is Jean really interesting or really boring? Should Logan have stayed dead? Do you think a certain x-mens outfit is positively horrendous even though people seem to love it?

The Brood Saga is better than Dark Phoenix imo 🤷

Until fairly recently my wife’s parents had the same phone number they did when we were dating and I dialed it from memory so many times I never forgot it

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Mike Johnson: It's Obama's fault that we can't repeal Obamacare.
Jake Sherman: "JOHNSON this AM: 'Can we completely repeal and replace Obamacare? Many of us are skeptical about that now, because the roots are so deep, it was really sinister, the way it was created. I believe Obamacare was created to implode upon itself, to collapse upon itself.'”

There were at least two ceasefires under Biden! In which more than five times as many living Israeli hostages were released in exchange for 240 Palestinians! Has everyone forgotten this?

Also, ceasefires have happened under prior Presidents! The day he gets Palestine their own country he can be told he's the most special boy deserving of a shiny prize.

Finished the Lego Game Boy set tonight and man, what a cool little build. Love the little touches like the swappable lenticular screens and how you can actually feel the click of inserting a cart.

There's no "regular politics" anymore because you can no longer maintain the idea that we all agree on common goals but we only differ about the means of getting there or whatever. The guys in charge now are plainly amoral, sadistic nihilists. They delight in it! You can't civilly disagree with that

I’m not super observant anymore but this is, like, core Christianity 101 stuff. So basic and fundamental to the entire concept that there’s just no way to call yourself a Christian if you don’t get it. It’s baffling.
sporkyreeve.bsky.social
If there’s one belief central to Christianity it’s that no one is beyond redemption and you aren’t saved by good works. The idea that you’ve been so bad that you’re beyond grace, or that you have the power to earn it yourself with goodness, is totally antithetical to the whole religion.

I remember when evangelical Christians tried to pretend he was sincerely a Christian convert, and excused his weird apostasy as him simply being inexperienced. A “baby Christian” they called him.

They don’t say that so much anymore.
