I REALLY want to be able to recommend Don’t Turn Out the Lights because it has some genuinely terrifying concepts/moments but it is also objectively very bad and nonsensical for most of its run time :( Just reread Anansi’s Goatman story instead it has the same beats and less annoying screaming

It was not remotely what I was expecting and had some pacing issues but worth a watch if you are into any combination of
• old-timey diving (pre-wetsuit)
• period films
• improbably large sharks in places you wouldn’t expect
• Aboriginal rep
• mobsters??
• crime noir but also sharksploitation????

I really can’t get over someone calling themselves a liberal feminist then arguing with a straight face that having someone else pay rent to them for 30 goddamn years so they can use the money to build equity (which the renter is unable to do) is noble because they charge under market value.

As much as my heart bleeds for this transphobe (thanks Bluesky labeling service!), perhaps the money spent purchasing a building she didn’t live in could have instead been used to pay for the one she did live in instead of taking out a mortgage? But I’m not an economist or anything
