NONONONONONO. The people who actually work in the legal department thank you for your forbearance.
Yeah, that was the right call.
I know this because procedure where I work is to stare at something for awhile and then ask Sarah.

Of course, we also have the option of labeling many choices as "business decisions" and telling the client to decide.
Probably! And how it would really look was having a lawyer look at broad categories where any state where you did business required a physical address and then just say that you're not going to risk it with X, Y, and Z type documents and should only redact A-W ones.
Today is just glorious, isn't it?

My 11-year-old floof has not been especially rompy today, but I think it's because he's been staying up late to try to hunt the moths that have been landing on the other side of the sliding door. We both love fall, but not for QUITE the same reasons.
I don't think I have heard that one! What's really wild is that a question like that would be maybe an hour or two of work for Legal.

Cached US Kindle giveaway: 10 copies of Terry Pratchett's Thief of Time, a Discworld novel, which I have, and have read, and have enjoyed. It has a perfect ending (so does Carpe Jugulum). Unlike most of the DW books I give out, this one does have dependencies.

Microsoft thinks people on voice calls are talking to their computers rather than just being on an Internet phone lol

no wonder Skype died
this is an absolutely unhinged connection to make. literally the thing that every single teams user reports is that they HATE IT

THEY'RE IN TEAMS BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO BE FOR THEIR JOB
"All the data that we see is when people use voice, they love it," says Mehdi. Some of that data is the billions of minutes that people spend talking in Microsoft Teams meetings. "They're talking through their c omputers today, and I think this change to 'talk with and talk to' will come to reality and we'll see this thing really take off," says Mehdi.
Sometimes I think having worked at small businesses for the last 15 years has impeded my ability to understand how large ones work.

We do irrational things here! We do them all the time! But it's not usually because we don't understand or care what individual workers' strengths are.
I'll admit that I thought of you specifically when I saw this!

Gizmo is a big floof now, not a little one, but he's still adorable and has great mlem game.

Your daily horoscope:
Be like a wave upon the ocean - travel with friends, see the world, and crash gently upon a warm shore.
Yeah, that's what Partner's and several of our friends' workplaces are doing too.

They're not shuffling sensibly, either. Partner's team needed another member urgently, so when the company dissolved a team, they reassigned the now-demoted lead to Partner's team. He immediately gave 2 weeks notice.
I mean, yeah, that makes sense. And I can see how a workplace can at least guess who can write well based on emails and such.

But graphic design? How would you even know who has any ability to do that?
Oh. Oh dear. I have another friend who does exactly that kind of marketing and graphic design stuff for a different techy company, and the thought of someone without any training having to do it is indeed lol.
Now that is a thing common to many workplaces!

Apparently, there's also a simultaneous desire to both be very safe and very fast which results in them achieving neither goal. Then he threw up his hands in the air and we went back to talking about books.

Modern work. Sigh.
It's a company that has a workforce shortage and also just gave him a promotion and increase in hours and responsibility without a raise, so I don't necessarily need to understand the processes to know that the company making bad decisions is a strong possibility.
I finally had to ask why they would do that, and then had to attempt to clarify, "Is the answer basically that there's not a good reason for this and that they're being stupid," and he said, "Yeah."
Well that sounds terrible. Last night, partner explained to me that they're having to do days of testing things and failing because they did two things at once and now the versions don't work properly with each other. At least I think that's what he explained.
Do you need something cute today? Don't we all need something cute today?

Here's a tiny, wobbly cowcat who's just about to be adopted. You're welcome.
Let's have a bonus #throwbackthursday to the day that I picked my humans out at the shelter!

Long story short, an actual Nazi doxxing ring. Enough people reported them that they went away for like 12 hours and then Elon personally brought them back. The site is dead. If you’re still on there, go lock your account right now
what even happened on the other site this time

You look fabulous today!
That dark witch of the wildlands covered in moss and malice look really suits you.
That sounds like an excellent use of everyone's time.

Also, it kind of made me want to wash my hands, even over the internet.
That being said, at least I am not having my partner's workday, which will apparently consist of him watching something called a pipeline for hours until it finishes and not being able to do any work of any kind until it's done, which doesn't seem like efficient use of expensive labor.
