I like Stephen King’s short story “The Jaunt” a lot, but I think it ought to be classed as a novella really. It’s longer than you think.

Unconstitutionally taking money that the law says must be spent on one purpose & using it for something else—when it's to establish personalist control over the FUCKING MILITARY—is about as dangerous a constitutional crisis/failure as you can imagine

The Office of Management and Budget sent a notification to Congress about their intent to use research and development funds to pay members of the military, two sources with direct knowledge tell NBC News.

A spokesperson for the OMB confirmed to NBC News that it plans to use the research and development funds and that there are two years' worth of funds available within the Department of Defense.

Basically it was a WW1 era slur against gay men, and therefore a term that meant "anyone weak and effeminate," and so the support troops got called that.

Its like if 100 years from now folks were saying "it stands for 'Failed As a Grunt'".

yup

if they really go through with this (or at least really try it, because I'm far from convinced they can actually do the nuts and bolts of it) appropriations are completely meaningless (they were already on life support) and Article I is a dead letter

What I'm struggling with is how we come back from this, because there is no return to regular order now.

I understand the optics here but this is also literally why Charles met his end in Whitehall, either Article I means what it says or it doesn't and the Constitution is dissolved

So the Dems need to be clear again that any FMer carrying out direction to implement mil paychecks in the absence of appropriations will be subject to anti-deficiency act criminal penalties, because to be clear even with the reconciliation slush fund BS there is no way to legally so this, period

No institutional design can overcome a lawbreaking president, a Congress defending lawbreaking and forfeiting its own power, a Supreme Court that pretends legal text doesn’t count to facilitate lawbreaking, and a citizenry that votes for all that.
Need at least one that wants rule of law. Maybe two.

Sure would be cool if we had an organization devoted to supporting and defending the Constitution around.

ICE are guys that were too chicken to join the military and fight in Iraq/Afghanistan and cosplay their fantasy of being a man by terrorizing innocent people and children.

Good people need to start outing their ICE family members, neighbors, and community members.

They need to be made into pariahs in the places decent Americans gather.

I think if they were working on behalf of a foreign adversary its likely they'd be a little more subtle about their end goals.

So if Russ Vought and Bob Kennedy were deliberately trying on behalf of an enemy to sicken and kill Americans by destroying the public health structure - what would they be doing differently?

in 2011, the president of antifa hired me to give fashion consultancy to the organization. i recommended everyone wear navy suits with tan shoes, dress sneakers, and golf polos with slim chinos. if you arrested everyone today wearing these things, you'd destroy antifa

I've noticed the opposing team's fans only cheer when the opponents score on us. To win those fans over, I recommend we score on ourselves repeatedly; that will surely make them so happy they'll start supporting us. And I'm sure all our fans will keep cheering for us—who else is there to cheer for?

There isn't a failsafe for military pay because instead of doing his job and ensuring the military is resourced, SecDef spent last week organizing a pep rally.

I think we should be more worried about the murders of random fishermen.

The soldiers who followed those orders need to go to jail, along with everyone in the chain of command.
scgriffith.bsky.social
there was a lot of "the military won't obey illegal orders, don't underestimate its professionalism." since then 1) multiple cities are going under occupation and we have not seen any suggestion of resistance 2) we haven't heard a whisper about trump ordering them to murder random fishermen
