Ideas cant be owned, yes. But the effort put into them to transform that idea into something tangible? I think that can be owned by the person who put that effort in. Its the act of creating that gives ownership, not ideas

I fucking hated the entire English curriculum when I was doing the leaving cert, except for Macbeth which was the ONE genuinely good story we were forced to study.

I maintain that "it's a bloody good play" is only a secondary reason you should read Macbeth (or watch it, or whatever). The most important reason is "It makes Wyrd Sisters so much funnier"
