Europe keeps talking big game about becoming independent from the US, focusing on arms production and other industries, and it all seems like an attempt to fix problems from 20 years ago.

The big industrial differentiator in the next 10-20 years will be software enabling integrated industries:

Better play it safe and not do anything! 🫡
After careful investigation we came to the conclusion that reason no one picked up the phone is that the phone line was dead.

100% Engineering Mindset 💪
The funny part is that if it were up to me, I’d have a hard time not taking the Chinese analysts over really badly educated Americans. Because chances are they will still do halfway decent work simply due do at least some professional pride and not wanting to let their education go to waste. 😬
Amazing weathering there. Really neat work! 👌

(Reminds me of some of the stuff shown in the books of rinaldi studio press that I got a few years back.)

i think the coolest feat of engineering of the 21st century is that every food product now comes in a bag with a tear-off top, and when you throw away the top part it somehow always flutters away from the trash can and lands on the floor
Field you say?

🤔

I wonder if a data center could be built there…

Nothing to see here. Move along please.
(Not that I disagree that the capabilities to not even need shotguns are needed, and quick.)
Autonomous drones can be dropped to lie in wait at quite some distance. Wouldn’t even produce much of a heat signature. The kind of firepower to destroy those kind of “teams” is reserved for the US and China.

Until Europe can confidently claim those capabilities, shotguns will be needed. 🤷‍♂️

Back in April I described for the US Homeland Defense Institute whether, when, and why, Russia's "mayhem" campaigns could target the US as well as Europe.

That report is now public. Much has happened since April - but all of it seems to confirm its key points.

I mean it’s not npm and 10000 transient dependencies with _some_ having critical vulnerabilities but being required by parts of your project.

(I had to design a UI that helps resolve/risk manage such pickles, but I think it _still_ hasn’t shipped completely, 2 years later… 😬)
Absolutely. And hopefully Ukraine _will_ earn a _lot_ of money helping Europe out, from drones to modern defense software to industrial expertise.
In a sane world this would put a pause on using AI for at least a year or two (or until regulations and internal processes catch up).

Was/will the system be re-evaluated?
Absolutely wild.

Makes Austria’s “Type your question here to get an answer from the government agency. Anawers might be incorrect because computers make errors.” use of chatbots look good in comparison!
Wild #AI in gov’t story ahead:

A citizen received a letter from the revenue office about paying property tax on a plot of land in Bavaria.

The problem was that she didn’t own a property in Bavaria, and neither did anyone in her family.

She refused. The revenue office insisted.

(And the next step, obviously, being head-mounted lasers. On sharks, too, when used against naval drones.)
Cost-per-kill is a major factor for drones, right?

The interesting part will be how quickly someone develops an automated system that has a guided little baby barrel with a couple shells mounted atop the helmets and is picking off attacking drones all on its own. 😬

I really have to wonder if we'd even be in an AI bubble right now if journalism wasn't all but dead as a profession.

The media has always been biased in favor of the ruling class, of course, but not like this
It bothers me to no extent that the media plays how Klarna whistles

Klarna wants to the headlines to say "AI-enabled Klarna"

It would have halved its workforce without AI because it overhired 2x in 2020-21 and never corrected till now

But this is how they get front pages
