Farmers grow what they grow because of farm policy.

The poisonous chemical compounds illudin S and illudin M have been isolated from Omphalotus illudens and there is some early research efforts using a modified illudin S in cancer treatment.

glow-in-the-dark ink so it too glows!

The glow is believed to attract nocturnal insects which can then spread spores. The mushrooms look a little like a chanterelle but is quite toxic, both raw or cooked, so care must be taken by foragers.

For International Mushroom Day this is my hand-carved lino block reduction print of a clump of poisonous, Eastern jack-o-lantern mushrooms (Omphalotus illudens) on a hardwood tree stump. 🧪🐡The gills of these North American mushrooms are bioluminescent and glow green. My print has a layer of 🧵

As described this is my 8” x 10” linocut reduction print of a clump of several Eastern jack-o-lantern mushrooms in yellow-orange with glow-in-the-dark gills against a decaying tree stump with textured bark in grey, brown and black, and ground with dead leaves with green in a corner of the background. The print is signed and numbered by me, Ele Willoughby, 2024.
