Godot is this magical thing that turns ideas I've been ruminating and documenting for TWO DAMN YEARS BUT COULDN'T GET TO MAKE BECAUSE I WAS BURNED OUT AS FUCK into cool 'perfect-dodge into wall combo' clips.

This is about less than 2 weeks of in-engine + Blender work.

Reading comics using Sonic 3 sprites and Earthbound backgrounds is what first got me into trying pixel art, as a teen!

There were sheets full of community made custom poses, exactly for this purpose ahah

Made a utility to automatically turn any hole in any geometry into a "light hole", which makes it appear as though it is connected to a different space on the other side by communicating light/darkness coming through.

Working on a mesh generation tool script. It uses a Curve3D to define the overall top shape and a Curve2D to change the shape of the walls.

I love this neat little trick to make a seamless texture "twist" around your geometry, without actually twisting the geometry itself. Blender's proportional editing is a life-saver, for modeling and UVs. Every type of falloff curve is useful for some situation.

UV unwrapping is quite the challenge, especially with pixelart!
I did this in a pretty hacky and messy way... but at least it got the job done!

btw have you noticed that your godot textures are blurry by default?

you need to set texture filter to anisotropic in material settings to fix that

Wanted to share a 2022 WIP capture of Revita's Regret boss animaton states!
This capture was was a sync and breakdown of the states between me and @benstar.bsky.social.
I think this boss was 100% the most ambitious thing I made at the time. Such a honour to have worked on it!
