Their requests would sometimes be absurd, obvious non-starters, and I'd try to get them to understand that. I'd end up doing the work anyways.

Anything I requested was usually shot down or deeply hindered. Several things I wanted to do are now huge businesses in and of themselves 🫩

All decisionmaking (if it ever happened rather than getting kicked down the road) could only happen in the brief possibility space of a Teams call, though most of that call would be meandering chatter about whatever buzzword or bullshit they heard from another executive

Lots of reports, analysis, financial models, deep industry research, etc. often for things they would request which were so obviously nonsense.

Then they wouldn't bother to read or even skim any of the material I produced, again for emphasis, at their request 🙄

Very succinct thread, can attest to this at least anecdotally. Spent years trying to get executives to engage with any of the things they asked for, constantly warning them about severe threats to their business.

Finally they told me to pound sand. Yes the company has completely collapsed now lol

The voluntary illiteracy of executive decision-makers is an underrated part of how we got here.

Information comes through to them by meetings instead of written reports (which they seldom read much, if any, of), and they operate chiefly on rumor and vibe rather than any sort of hard info.
