“How do you know all this?” Rey asks after another minute of tinkering, the vibrant clamor surrounding them easing a little of the fraught energy. “Isn’t fixing starfighters a little below your station?”

“I wanted to be a pilot. When I was a child.”

Her hands still. She glances up in confusion. “What?”

Kylo responds in the deadpan she now recognizes as his humor, desert-dry and growing just as familiar. “You really thought my childhood dream was to become a ‘galactic dictator,’ as some refer to me?”

“I don’t know,” she says, trying to ease her voice into a similar tone. Imagining the dark thunderstorm of a man sitting opposite her as a child with normal aspirations is bizarre, almost laughable, until she guesses their source.

Her heart twists—if not for the dictator, then for the lost boy he once was.

And seeing him in nondescript clothing against the market’s backdrop, hands steepled loosely amid the tools and spare parts atop their table, she’s never been able to picture Ben Solo so well.

Rey stuffs her discarded smallclothes in his mouth—Kylo is likely to be loud, and she would prefer to be able to look their guards in the eye tomorrow morning, for once.

His eyes flash in indignation, like flames glinting off the blade of a sword.

She raises an eyebrow in challenge. Can you take it?

His jaw works, cheeks hollowing, and she can guess what he’s doing: sucking on the fabric to draw out the taste of her. Even bound and effectively gagged, Kylo can give her a look that’s hotter than the warmth of the crackling hearthfire. I’ll take everything you have to give me.

tava ren lit up the toxic femmeslash part of my brain like christmas and compelled me to work on this fic, in which tava sees the weird games kylo & rey are playing and decides she wants to teach him a lesson in prisoner handling. or: in which kylo ren gets cucked over a space zoom call

Rey forced herself to look Tava in the eye again. Nobody besides Kylo knew the extent of her relationship with him, and, even then, she suspected that neither of them really understood it either. Could she freely admit to knowing what he was like? Did she know, really?

‘I don’t know what you mean,’ she said.

Tava spread her hands wide. ‘I’m under orders to capture you. As are my men. The whole fleet has a standing order to abandon all current mission objectives and divert all resources to your capture if you’re located. And they do capture you! They’re good at it! Funny, then, that you seem to be so good at running away as soon as they turn you over to him. And that you never yield any useful intel despite all those hours in the interrogation chair. Tell me, how many times have you been on his flagship? And does it do something for you too, knowing an entire fleet is at your beck and call for the sake of some sort of sex game?’

White-hot anger flashed inside Rey, like she’d been shocked by a live wire. She hadn’t even called it that to herself.

‘It’s not like that,’ she growled.

‘Oh, I’m sure it isn’t, sweetheart,’ Tava said. The husky rasp of her voice—the way she’d put emphasis on sweetheart—did something to Rey that made her stomach feel tight. ‘But you realise it’s inefficient, don’t you? That it’s a waste of your time? Does he even touch you? It doesn’t seem like his thing. Does he just make you watch while he touches himself?’
