There’s 1,000 times more chatter about the Maine senate race in a year than about Maine’s ballot measure in 3 weeks that’d bring voter ID and crack down on mail voting… maybe let’s start there??? boltsmag.org/maine-questi...
A Ballot Measure Targets Mail Voting in Maine - Bolts
Question 1, on the November ballot, would set up a barrage of new restrictions on absentee ballots that would considerably affect older voters and people with disabilities.

A very serious man wearing a serious business suit is having a very serious conversation about serious things with another serious man.
But what is this?!
A server bringing a muffin?
All seriousness evaporates and he grins, saying: "Just LOOK. At. That. That's happiness mate. Right there." (4)

🧵Spotted While Roaming in Aotearoa New Zealand:

A fluffy black and white cat runs out of the garden of a narrow blue fairy-tale-like cottage, meowing a greeting at his two humans at the end of a work day.
Tail held high, he leads them inside, updating them on all his feline news. (1)

Most of my talk will end up being that the NBA regular season is just an extended preseason for the completely different playoffs. With some other discussion, but bring on the NCAA Hoops talk!

That switch could be clumsiness, but I think it's more of a freudian slip. If they have not just first publishing rights but first reprint rights, and they never reprint your story (which is plenty likely) you can't sell any reprint, ever.

Props to Benjamin for sharing the details of his contract. Unfortunately no props to MRM because there's a lot of extremely outre stuff in here that I'd refuse to sign. Let's run it down. (Context: If you're negotiating a contract with Strange Horizons, I'm the person you're negotiating with.)

New neuroscience short story forthcoming in @analogsf.bsky.social! Which also means a story of - ultimately successful - negotiations with their new publisher.

Includes full final text of my contract for all to use while they finish rewriting their boilerplate.

As an adoptive parent, one of my top concerns was that the birth parent(s) should not be coerced, socially or financially, into a traumatic decision. We considered both int’l & domestic, and I would be EXTREMELY concerned by “deregulation” of what absolutely NEEDS to be a highly-regulated process.
