On my way home tonight, I must have been holding up traffic so badly on this 30km/h, single file, local street, that this pickup driver decided to ride my ass, yell things at me, and try to run me off the road.

He said "you're not a car!" I guess to him that means I can't use the road or something.

I love coops and wish we had more!

I appreciate the hard work councillors and advocates face in making positive change in our city. It’s frustrating that it’s hard to make change and we should celebrate the victories; it’s hard to find the happy medium between positive critique and acceptance of “anything is better than nothing” 1/

I am glad the community is rallying to make the Gladstone/Gilmour bike lane as safe as possible. I will be channeling the feedback and advocacy to try and find some solutions with city staff. The file doesn’t go to council till January, so we have some time.

Why will this new Centretown bike lane have a detour?
While a downtown Ottawa bikeway along the corridor has been a long time coming, cyclists say a proposed route isn't the safest way.

Why? We've already paid a fortune to build a police station right there! If someone has to do something let them.

The real solution is fixing the underlying social issues and directing funding appropriately. More policing has never fixed these issues, it's a waste of money

What a waste of money. How about we restore frequent train service and fix bus reliability

This is the road where people are driving 154 km/h. A residential area with young families on one side, a park on the other.

And yet for some reason, people are clocking Autobahn speeds here. A few years ago a guy doing 100 killed an elderly couple. 1,500 crashes on this stretch in the past decade

I'm shocked it's only your second time!

I was there this past weekend and it looked great!

And their outright lies about "sunk costs"

How often in Landsdowne 2.0 consultations were we told this was just an early step and there were still more votes ahead

Now, when those votes come up, those same people fall back on the sunk costs argument to ensure it moves forward

Exactly this. Too many councillors (and the mayor) aren't leaders. They'd rather reinforce voters' mistaken beliefs and get themselves re-elected than be honest about our choices.

What an utter indictment of what a city councilor is vs what they should be, with a councillor asking “well don’t you think we should be a city that allows single family homes too cuz that’s what people want…”

Are you serious? This whole city is just SFHs. Single family homes and towers. That’s it
pykey.bsky.social
It can but it likely won't in Ottawa 😞

100% and I appreciate the work you're putting in. Radical transformation is something we all want but there isn't broader political recognition of the importance (yet) 😀

Who needs to get anywhere during #Ottawa rush hour? Certainly not you! Triple back to back cancellations.
pykey.bsky.social
I've done exactly that a few times this summer! There are some comfyish secluded rocks nearby.

I agree though, good patio seats are important and part of why you pay more than for takeout in the bushes. 🤣🤣

The revamped Main Street in #Ottawa opened early June 2017, that’s 7.5 years ago. That’s right, 7.5 years ago. And look at this now. #ottbike #ottwalk
A Main Street in Ottawa with asphalt patches over pavers next to a bike lane. It looks awful.

What the fuck #Autowa are you doing on that auto?! And that's in a 40km zone which makes me think dude was looking at his phone and not the parked cars along Main Street. Geez!
A pickup truck appears to have driven up onto the drivers side of a car parked along a street in Ottawa.

Same here! Such a fantastic option the few times I need it, and it keeps me with an insurance history (such a stupid requirement).
pykey.bsky.social
I wonder how many trucks have been driven over it. Deliveries, just stopping for a minute, maintenance, city, etc

We build infrastructure then destroy it by driving on it. Also, I'm very sad to see the fountains gone. They were covered up in 2016 and then ripped out with the reno I guess.
pykey.bsky.social
Yes. I had totally forgot about that weirdness

This is going to be a great spot. I'm excited for my first visit

There's to fix and change with our current options but "involuntary rehabilitation" is just wrong. It won't solve the underlying issues and it's an infringement on basic rights

Centretown residents generate significantly greater tax revenues than the residents outside the Greenbelt. Those revenues are used across the city, not specifically to our benefit.

That's fine I guess, but can we at least stop prioritizing suburban commuters speed over local communities.
