Rupert Murdoch is awful, but he was an actual newspaper person who understood that alienating your core audience is not good business. For Bezos, the Post was a vanity project, and is now a loss leader to protect his other interests.

Lately, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) has been siding with Democrats to call for extensions to health care subsidies and supporting an effort both Speaker Johnson and President Trump oppose to force a vote on releasing Epstein files.
Marjorie Taylor Greene, tearing into her own party, says GOP men in Congress are ‘weak’
“There’s a lot of weak Republican men and they’re more afraid of strong Republican women,” Greene said.

'They posited that the recent influx of German and Irish immigrants was responsible for a decline in U.S. moral standards and were part of a Catholic conspiracy to seize power.'

Lots of my own people forget our ancestors were targets of nativists-

Anti-immigrant riots shook American cities. In D.C., Marines were sent into the streets.
This was 1857, and violence had been fanned by the American Party, which posited that the influx of German and Irish immigrants was responsible for declining moral standards.

Authorities have arrested a Florida man for intentionally starting the fire that burned Los Angeles's Pacific Palisades. So why does it feel like the fire was started by a cat-eating immigrant from war-ravaged Portland, Oregon?

Completely anecdotal, but you hear that kind of stuff from the left, too. There's a goodly chunk of people out there who wouldn't mind seeing bad things happen to the people they don't like. But they have no interest in doing it themselves.

Spoke to a landscaper yesterday in ruby-red Ocean County NJ. He knows I live on the west coast; he supports the military going into PDX.

He went on to reminisce about the 1970 hard hat riots where construction workers beat the shit out of war protesters in NYC. He wouldn't mind if it happened again

This guy snuck past security to get to the press offices a few years ago, where he delivered donuts to myself & Austin Jenkins of public radio.

One of those conversations where the first couple minutes seemed normal enough. And got weirder as it went.

Politicians killed my (your) newsroom
The closure of Cascade PBS means less investigative reporting on government, business and society in Washington state. Just how powerful people want it.

A dark day for Northwest journalism: @cascadepbs.bsky.social is axing the @cascadepbsnewsroom.bsky.social, laying off 17 people, per internal memo obtained by @kuow.org.

Cascade PBS got ~10% of its budget from Corp. for Public Broadcasting. Unclear why its whole newsroom had to be axed.

That this is happening at a Seattle-based PBS station does not bode well for rural stations. What a huge loss for the Northwest.
