I've had a lot of new followers joining this weeks, so short introduction: I'm an Irish writer and illustrator who's been working since the 90's and has published 47 books for different reading levels in a range of genres, including 14 novels. I also work in a range of different illustration styles.
The cover of the third book I did with Jason Byrne, the comedian. It's in a rough-lined cartoon style, the figures rendered in black and white. The title is 'The Accidental Adventures of Onion O'Brien: The Secret Scientist'. It's a sky-blue cover framed with white flashes, where Onion, a ten-year-old white boy with a black patch over his left eye in square-framed glasses, sits in a threatening, high-tech chair. In front of him, an old man in a suit with a scarred face is pointing at his own head. The artwork for the cover of an anthology of climate change-themed short stories and cartoons that is also a writing resource. The style is realistic, digitally painted. Two teenagers are the main focus of montage; a dark-haired, brown-skinned girl with a notebook and a white boy with blond hair with a camera. Below them is a BMW SUV. In the bottom corners, a young fox on the left and a black girl with spiked hair and yellow and red water pistol on the right. In the background, looming over them, are the ruined stones walls of an old building. Right at the back, a boy is jumping off some collapsing wooden boards. The cover artwork for the SFF anthology, Fight Like a Girl Volume 2. It's a simple, cartoon-style, brown-skinned, fantasy warrior woman holding a wicked-looking sword against a blue background. Around her, in the style of a game menu, are various tools and weapons. The cover artwork for my book, The First Fire of Halloween, digitally painted. An athletic human figure with the head of a goat stands over a wide bonfire in a field. Behind him, on either side, are the weird golden eyes of a goat, with their slot-shaped pupils. The background is grassy ground and a dark, cloudy sky.

There are few things better than reading a book from decades or centuries ago and recognising you have something in common with someone from the far past.

Ming Campbell was a dedicated public servant and a true Liberal giant.

His principled leadership opposing the Iraq War was a mark of his morality, courage and wisdom.

But more than that, he was an incredibly warm and caring friend and colleague.

We will miss him terribly.

There were between three and five in the group.

Apart from a tiny bunch of bigoted attention-seekers, nobody in Ireland gives a shit about the Burkes. The media needs to forget about them and move on.

A group of people have turned up to Catherine Connolly’s canvass in Naas asking about Enoch and Elijah Burke.

They have asked Connolly if she’s a Freemason…

It's #PortfolioDay again! I still have no idea how this is decided, but anyway, but here are four more of my pieces, from various periods, in a range of styles.

I'm a writer and illustrator from Ireland, and I've been drawing pictures professionally for over 30 years, and writing books for 20.
A digitally painted illustration of a male-presenting, light-brown-skinned figure looking up, as we look down from a high angle. He's standing on what looks like a purple tint of tarmac. The skin of his face, arms and chest is filled with hints of human figures, as are his dark hair, his vest, trousers and trainers. There is a circular lens over his left eye, magnifying it, and in the iris, we can see the face of a black woman. The brief was for an image that tried to express the difficulty of trying to define the traits of an individual by surveying large groups of people. A brush and ink illustration for a national colouring competition. The image is from the original Series of Unfortunate Events, with the evil Count Olaf in the foreground. He's a balding man with a goatee, wearin a suit. He's leaning in from the top, his arms reaching around the borders of the picture, and the three children running across a dry lake bed under a cloudy sky. There's a pre-teen boy carrying a suitcase, a teenage girl early 19th century dress, and holding her hand behind her, a three-year-old girl in a similar style dress. A digital painting of two figures against a landscape, turquoise oval on a white background. They're facing us over a table top. On the left, a girl in a red top is working on some kind of device set inside a globe, the top half opened like a lid. The figure on the right is a purple and grey, humanoid robot, holding a spanner in his right hand and pointing at something in the globe with his left, clearly offering advice. In front of him is an open, grey toolbox. The cover illustration for my book, The First Fire of Halloween. It features a púca, the mythical Irish shape-changer, as a muscular human figure with a goat's head. He's standing in a field in darkness, with a fire blazing in front of him. Inset in the dark sky above and behind him are a pair of yellow goat's eyes.

The evilest trick Israel always plays is to sign ceasefire agreements and immediately violate them.

Violating truces and human beings is in Israel's DNA.

Ireland's data centre industry has long justified its massive expansion here on the basis of being able to operate with lower emissions than the alternative. But this is not a genuine reason, as this article makes clear:
