I gotta say, if anything this kinda highlights how far back the general rot in the agency runs, to have this man look at what’s going on and respond with more or less “they’re just following orders, and a few bad apples are acting up”

Sharing an excellent Q&A from Obama-era former ICE director John Sandweg about the ways in which operations today are totally unprecedented for the agency and the ways in which some times are unchanged — and how in his view, the admin is leaning into the aggression. www.politico.com/news/magazin...
‘Those Rules Are Gone’: How ICE Is Rethinking its Raids
ICE used to arrest the “worst first.” Under the new Trump administration, the agency is following a different playbook, says a former ICE chief.

Today in luxury surveillance.

“They’ll [ai wearables] be embedded in what we already wear: glasses, jewellery, clothing. Fashion will play a critical role in normalizing them.”

It's always good to see priests who still remember there are *seven* Catholic social principles. Also, that noise you hear is the USCCB screeching to the Vatican and getting back nothing, lol

Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

Mamdani is going to win. The question will now be, "Can you reproduce this?" It's doubtful. He's talented. But it's possible, first of all, if you remember all politics is local, and the more local you get - the more people recognize you - the more things like age and parties cease to matter.

Sad news everyone, I’m officially pulling the plug on Brightsiders, my super fan podcast for the 2017 movie Bright. I still feel like there were many interesting topics left to discuss but after 7 years of weekly episodes I’ve learned that no one has ever listened to the show.

the position of the administration it seems is that it is illegal discrimination and divisive racism for historically excluded groups to organize on that basis to improve their position. it’s basically just a genteel version of david duke’s complaint that there wasn’t a NAACP for white people
victorerikray.bsky.social
I know it is beside the point because this administration simply wants resegregation but conferences for Black professional associations have always been open to everyone. Typically, the started as a response to white exclusion, and did not replicate that.

Very bad: OSU unilaterally cancelled the registration of grad students attending the joint conference of the National Society of Black Physicists and the National Society of Hispanic Physicists. And OSU won't fund recruiting at the Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science.

I didn't watch CBS News before Bari Weiss got there. I doubt you did either. But the mainstream media moving right really does matter, because of the mainstream media's collective powers of 1. agenda-setting and 2. framing. newrepublic.com/article/2016...
The Mainstream Media Is Moving Right. Here’s What We Can Do About It.
At The Washington Post, CBS, and maybe CNN, the trend line is terrible. But liberals do have the power to reverse these trends.

Dodgers can get 90+ wins playing the entire season on battery saver mode and then just blast through the playoffs. If I weren't a Giants fan I'd be in awe of it.

ah an approach so commonsensical that it needs billionaire donors to support it

It's tucked into this Atlantic article about Searchlight, but I actually want to read more about how the contrarian debate seems to be driven largely by one donor advisor and/or his billionaire clients.

Thinking about Yukio Mishima and how committing seppuku really is a ritual act of rejection towards one’s own hunger for that they cant understand. Seperate the head from the body with the aid of a second after one has pulled back the gut curtain with a blade of honor. It makes an exquisite corpse.

"Mamdani told me he understands that his success or failure will not be seen as only his own. He is right."

This is true but also tells on itself because The Discourse Gatekeepers do not declare centrism dead because Eric Adams proved to be an incompetent buffoon crook. It only goes one way!

Why does no one read the law
diplomatofnight.com
Arms Export Act and Foreign Assistance Acts both have provisions which explicitly state that the president has an obligation to suspend military assistance to a country impeding the delivery of humanitarian aid. The way the administration avoided this was by finding that Israel wasn't doing that.
