in that same vein, it interests me how every David Cronenberg film post-Videodrome is the most romantic autopsy imaginable but people keep calling it body horror. or they think a Kiyoshi Kurosawa film always holds evil. they fear it cause they can’t see it from the right angle as formula for reality

World of Ruin, Silent Hill, Nightmare in Dreamland. It’s all the Atomic Age! If we just fall out and hunt monsters, we wont reach higher ground. enough bad ends, and we realize the sidequests and NPCs were the true path to being like a dragon. Who fits in the new age of of heroes

Death Stranding 2 works for the reason FF XIV/VI or DQXI or Elden Ring or Drakengard or Chrono Trigger work. the same reason RDR2 works. They dare to ask who we trust. How we keep it going for the last of us when society is OBAA and civilization (for all its fun) has failed and keeps killing us.

One reason Japanese video games are better in general than American video games at being art or communicating valuable messages is largely because of the outcome of World War II. I think the only major exception is Red Dead Redemption 2

If we all just “gotta take care of me”, we will find less & less love by our side when we can’t take care of ourselves. We have to stop thinking of each other’s weight as baggage and start thinking of it as ballast that keeps us from falling off course or flying into nothingness

It is just honestly so crazy to me how we keep leaving each other for dead with hardly a word when one of us falls short and calling that boundaries. That is not boundaried. that’s abandonment. Boundaries come with conversation beyond just “this is where you end and i begin”

Araki’s body of work is so essential and what he represents as a queer asian cali punk who made pop movies on his own terms made me everything i am, but as time has gone on and i have actually been able to speak with him, i’ve realized we have very different experiences, worldviews, and concerns

It is kind of funny i aged out of Gregg Araki being my favorite filmmaker. Of course he is still fundamental to me and i think Nowhere and Mysterious Skin are two of the greatest films ever made, but the fact is i got older and the characters he is concerned with never pass 30
