Anyways I watched this during a meeting of my undergrad’s queer club.

Remember that “Catfish” episode from like 2012 where this guy thinks he’s talking to a trans woman on like OkCupid or whatever and the producers show up at her house and she’s like “jk I’m not actually trans” and this chaser is clearly disappointed so the crew is like “bro just admit you’re gay?”

Transness is not bourgeois. This is a wedge idea dreamed up by some gleefully amoral think tank lobotomite to split trans people and make us fight each other. That we relay on modern medicine doesn't make us any more bourgeois than someone who needs antidepressants or cleft palate repair.

signing a bunch of LGBTQ+ protections into law but then vetoing two other ones bc they would cost health insurance companies 0.00001% in yearly profits is just so Newsom

CA UPDATE:

Newsom has signed these queer rights bills:
- AB 82 / SB 497 (Medical privacy)
- AB 1084 / SB 59 (Name/Gender changes)
- SB 450 (Adoption access)

And vetoed these bills:
- SB 418 (HRT stockpile)
- AB 554 (PreP)

Final total: 8 bills signed, 2 vetoed.

I just finished Saskia Nislow’s “Root Rot” and my brain feels like it’s on fire. Nislow mutates, twists, and refracts the DNA of classic horror literature and births something completely new and alien. A truly phenomenal work of trans horror.

Introduced the gay girl groupchat to “Spider-Man: Reign” today. I won’t give the full context but the “death by radioactive ejaculate” plot point was very relevant to the discussion.

Genres aren't real. They are mental projections we impose on stories to simplify the way talk about and sell them but stories come unshaped from deep within us and writers shouldn't feel constrained by or even respect genres at all. The story comes first.

I know this isn't necessarily fair, but I've encountered way too much bad fantasy where this is clearly the case.
nicanstett.bsky.social
All good writers, regardless of genre, put thought into their settings. When I hear writers or readers praise a novel's "world building," I can't help but assume that an emphasis was placed on fantasy maps, imaginary politics, or magical power systems over narrative, character, or prose.

yeah man, trans reporters, whom the ny times derogatorily calls "trans activists" so that normies won't listen to them, have been reporting on ADF activity in the UK since 2018.

bigotry in journalism makes you late to the story.

Really important NYT investigation finds that the ADF has been working with Reform, 'courting the party since at least 2024' and that the British arm 'orchestrated Mr Farage’s appearance in Congress, reaching out to ask if he would like to give evidence on censorship'

Do you ever think about how we’re supposedly getting a Dave Filoni Star Wars movie that’s supposed to like satisfyingly conclude all of these mediocre shows? And how that’s like undoubtedly going to be the worst Star Wars movie?

Besides Sleepaway Camp, this begins to articulate my feelings on Silence of the Lambs as well. You can't convince me that's not a movie about the triangulated relationship between a trans woman, a gay man, and a (possibly asexual) lesbian, in which the world outside is of no real consequence.

"Trans issues aren't this shameful thing that Democratic consultants suggest we hide from, it's the same fight undocumented immigrants are fighting, or those who can't access health care are fighting...Political issues aren't siloes, they're all connected, and Mamdani recognizes that." ✊

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.
