1. This has been the rule for non EU visa applicants in the #RestofTheWorld for a while.
2. We told you that the dragnet was only going to get smaller. The visa process in the UK has been a cash grab for years now.
3. Spain, Portugal and France have an opportunity to do the funniest thing ever.

I wrote an essay for @mihjournal.bsky.social on two very different books on planetary politics, each enlightening in their own way. Both contribute substantially to the discussion within the planetary turn. The piece can be found here:

It's long past time to tackle the British arms industry. I didn't say it on the podcast, but how about a punitive windfall tax on UK arms manufacturers to fund a British reparations scheme for Gaza and Yemen?

A really excellent piece that clearly shows the double standards in the world & how #colonialism & colonial ideology is alive and thriving.

1. In response to the furore over the graffiti on the walls at Canterbury Cathedral, here is an alternative case-study: an artistic installation that is transgressive to its site and yet also thoughtfully attuned to its context: Tracey Emin, 'For You’ at Liverpool Cathedral.

“Israeli” ceasefires only ever apply to the other party. They’ll continue to kill whomever they want, whenever they want until they are stopped. They see themselves as occupying an altogether different moral plane than their enemies, like any colonizer.

UVA's Sociology department is looking to hire a tenured sociologist of religion at the Associate or Full level. Here is the advertisement. @sssreligion.bsky.social @asareligion.bsky.social

Details here: apply.interfolio.com/173879
The Department of Sociology at the University of Virginia invites applications for a tenured Associate or Full Professor position specializing in the sociology of religion. We are particularly interested in a theoretically engaged scholar whose work addresses religious pluralism in complex modern societies, the relationship between religion, civic engagement, and democratic political cultures, the social and economic impact of religion from a cultural and historical perspective. Relevant questions may include but are not limited to: how does religion shape cultural and political conflicts? How does religion relate not only to political participation but to the shaping of collectives? How do different understandings of the sacred inform the development of, and dispute over, morality?

For additional information about our dynamic department, please visit https://sociology.as.virginia.edu/. For questions regarding this position, please contact Isaac Reed, Search Chair, at iar2c@virginia.edu.

If you don’t see the link between ICE and the IDF, you haven’t been paying attention. We are being asked to accept a world where whole communities are made disposable and marked for disappearance. If we accept that for anyone, no one is safe anywhere.

Keeping notes, taking names, and holding those in power accountable for their words and deeds.
