Radio 4 and BBC and Channel 4 News and all the papers completely skewing the Peggie story so your average person will have no idea what actually happened. Doesn’t this make you furious? Integrity in journalism is dead, not just in the US

You'd never know it from these headlines that she lost all her claims on the actual substance of the case, claiming that trans people must be banned from bathrooms.

everyone's linking this to Clippy. this is my moment to say how much I loved Clippy, & how much time I spent choosing alternative incarnations of Clippy. see image. I thought the earth which spun and glowed when you stimulated it was the HEIGHT. OF. SOPHISTICATION.

This is pulling the ladder up after them - it is SO vital and I came through a route that did precisely this for me. I then went on to a fully funding nurse training that gave me and my daughter enough to live off... Talk about removing ladders from poverty.
it's gutting to see access and widening participation initiatives being binned across the university sector. ELCE here at Bristol, Essex Pathways here. nothing pushes my personal, visceral buttons like the idea of denying academic study to someone whose life it could change
In yet more devastating news, the VC has confirmed her plans to cut 80% of academic staff from Essex Pathways, our foundation year department. This would effectively close down all our existing foundation year programmes through the back door.

But it's not a done deal yet. Please share urgently.

Media attention is rightly focused on Southend and the 400 job losses: those are the big headlines, and that's what's been confirmed in writing. But the VC isn't sharing shocking details like this publicly.

We only know about Pathways because a colleague pressed her on it at an all-staff meeting.

everyone can do this, not just the welsh! send any self addressed envelopes back, empty, don't put a stamp.
I live in Wales and today received my Join Us letter from Reform UK, complete with SAE which I posted back to them, immediately, empty. If every other person in Wales did this, Reform would spend over £1.5 million on postage. Not sorry. Join me Cymru.

Do I know anyone on here who might be able to get me a digital image of a page (or a few) of a manuscript in the Library of Ahmed III (in Istanbul)? The library doesn’t appear to have digitized much (or any) of the collection?

To be entirely selfish, what is really irritating about events at Essex is that, after years of precarity (and a year with no job) I’ve finally been getting back-on-track with research. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I really can't emphasize enough that if you care about local politics, all you gotta do is show up. Just a regular schmegular person showing up. Literally just show up consistently in person and within a remarkably short amount of time, you will have a shocking amount of influence.

Stuck on this gutting sentence on the Women’s Institute decision. For young people it’s watching the world close to them before they’ve had a shot at life, for older women it’s watching half a century of progress vanish. Either way it’s grossly, unbearably cruel.

doesn’t have to be much, like a mug that says “i applied for leverhulme 2020”
or a t-shirt “UKRI reject 2023”
