Urban politics continues to have the most interesting coalitions, policy proposals, and characters and I am still glad that I decided that I was going to study it when I was 21 years old

mirya.bsky.social
Like, if I can't have some degree of optimism about <waves arms> any of this, what's the fucking point of studying it??

mirya.bsky.social
I've studied urban politics for too closely and for far too long to get all that excited about any individual leader

BUT change is absolutely possible and it can absolutely happen in cities and if not now, when?

Every academic career is built on rejection, but we don’t show it.

CVs list publications, grants & awards, not rejected manuscripts, unfunded proposals, or failures.

But those invisible rejections shape us more than our successes ever do.

Researching whether attorney-client privilege continues after death, and the example given by the American Bar Association to demonstrate it is, incredibly: Lizzie Borden’s defense team.

One kept her files confidential, one left them to an historical society.

Lizzie Borden’s attorneys have split in the 100+ years since her death into one camp of keeping all related notes privileged and another of giving them over to a local historical society

Drew the #5ofWands. Fives are chaotic energy and this card suggests disharmony within a group of people. I am not currently working with a disharmonous group, so it could be this struggle is within me. Sounds about right for me today. #tarot

i hate it when my inability to wear an offensive Halloween costume compromises my research

Of course Antifa would require paper receipts, taped carefully to a legal sized piece of paper, then folded into a paper plane and flown from a unionized garbage truck into their open office window!
