Introduction time again: I am a French citizen living on the west coast of #Ireland for 30 years. I write about ideas and #VisualArts. I continually struggle as to whether writing is the best way to engage, so I'm #re-wilding my #garden. Lots of PDFs on my website.

@praxisunion.bsky.social response to the Arts budget 2026. Full statement to be found here www.praxisunion.ie/praxis-budge...
PRAXIS STATEMENT: BUDGET 2026
We welcome the government’s commitment to a permanent Basic Income for the Arts (BIA), a hard-won achievment for artists, workers and advocates.
We’re concerned about a gap between the end of the current BIA pilot (Feb 2026) and the start of the new scheme (Sept 2026).
Despite a small increase to the department, arts funding has fallen in real terms, worsening long-term deprivation in the sector.
Half of artists in Ireland live below the poverty line, current funding levels are not enough to support fair living and working conditions.
Praxis calls for: increased Arts Council funding, investment in arts infrastructure, and a permanent, inclusive Basic Income for the Arts.

The current Irish government is hostile to climate action #spéirgorm

"The report from this second stage was completed and sent [to DoCEE] eight months ago.

It has been sitting on the Minister for the Environment Darragh O’Brien’s desk ever since, awaiting publication, only partially leaked."
Eamon Ryan: Why is the Government delaying publication of the land use review?
Fears around the report are misplaced and it is long past time for it to be published

There has never been a more important time to elect a President who will be independent of Government.

A President who will represent Ireland with pride, courage, and integrity.

On 24th October, vote for a strong voice, independent of Government.

Let's explore the Green credentials of Heather Humphreys - The woman former GP member Brian Leddin thinks should be president.
She advocated for an increased burn period during her time as Minister for Heritage, as well as prolonging the period during which hedgerows could be cut. #Spéirgorm 1/n

“EPA said the biggest threats to overall health of the country’s natural water bodies include animal waste, fertilisers & pesticides running off farmland and forestry”.

Politically backed ongoing wreckage of our natural environment for profit continues unabated.

The protection of the environment for the benefit of all is a left-right issue. Here’s why:

Who benefits from environmental destruction? The rich. Who pays for it? Everyone else. Who pays the most? The poorest people in society. It doesn’t get more starkly left-right than that.

Ex-Green TD Brian Leddin is leaving the Greens over the party's support for "far left" Connolly, and voting for Fine Gael's Humphreys as president.

He believes climate and ecological breakdown are not left-right issues.

He's very wrong: *capitalism* is their core driver.

Well said @irishrainforest.bsky.social - Leddin must not have paid attention to recent speeches from the Taoiseach and government (in)action.

Meanwhile, the EPA tells us today that water quality in our rivers and lakes has deteriorated again.

Brian Leddin: Why I resigned from the Green Party over its decision to back Catherine Connolly
michaelecutaya.bsky.social
The Green Party consulted members about what should the party do and members answered that the GP should support CC. If he has problems with democratically taken decisions, he should indeed leave the party.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Its not monsters from outer space
Its humans scraping the bottom floor and sucking up every life form that exists, leaving nothing
Fish often in vain flee for their lives

Also releases 370 million metric tons of planet-warming c02 every year, roughly same as running 100 coal power plants

"As a result, I know much more about Connolly now than I did before this campaign started.

Conversely, I know pretty much the same amount today as I did about Heather Humphreys’s life and values pre-campaign."

Catherine Connolly’s podcasts and viral moments V Heather Humphreys freezing under no pressure.

I wrote about the big differences between how the Irish presidential candidates communicate and connect.

Connolly has appeared on several podcasts that appeal to younger audiences and the more candid format suits her
