We have truly not yet figured out how to cope with a person or institution that is "aware" of climate change, "accepts the science", but then decides to continue actively worsening it anyway

We don't even have a word or a phrase for this!

Mark Carney’s climate inaction is at odds with his awareness of climate change’s existential threat
Climate action no longer seems to be a priority for Prime Minister Mark Carney, despite his previous activism. This is bad news for Canadians and the climate.

No incarnation of any political party at any time in any country on earth has ever spent so much time thinking about children’s genitals.
Besides linking Tylenol in pregnant women to autism, RFK Jr. now says circumcision is part of the reason why kids are autistic.

"Children who are circumcised early have double the rate of autism, and it's highly likely because they're given Tylenol. None of this is positive..."

The people who shape opinion in mainstream media are mostly from the upper middle and wealth classes. They got there because of nepotistic privilege and they keep their jobs, and make more money, because they tell the wealthy what they want to hear, even as that becomes more and more fascistic.

Doug Ford is gaslighting you. If you’re trying to obey the law in Toronto and driving by a speed camera up to 10km over, you won’t be fined. This tool should be used to catch people driving near schools at excessive speeds, recklessly endangering our kids. www.thestar.com/news/gta/wha...

The challenge coins being handed out by @FBIDirectorKash. Seems someone put a lot of thought into this.
I’m finding it increasingly uncomfortable for friends and family to talk me about their “fun” trips to the US.

It takes extraordinary privilege and self-isolation to be so cheerful about visiting that place.

Israel has continued to illegally intercept vessels from the Sumud Flotilla.

As Canada says it's “not able to guarantee the safety of Canadian travelers, or to provide them with security and protection abroad," the people are defending the flotilla.

Protests are sparking around the world:

Extreme privilege rots and Trump and his progeny are a living, perfect example. Watching this lump of a person “succeed” because his family had wealth and everything was rigged in his favor, to the point he became president and millions want him as dictator is so nauseating I can barely stand it.
these officials are US fifth columnists and Canadians need to pay better attention to who and what is influencing their conduct
pretty insane, US pals! 😬
Trump: "The ones that are run by radical left Democrats -- what they've done to San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles. They're very unsafe places & we're gonna straighten them out one by one. This is gonna be a major part for some people in this room. That's a war too. It's war from within"

To wit: if, having considered history & firepower, you genuinely believe the PNW is a unified political force that cld & wld militarily defeat an incursion by federal troops, well, I disagree, but fine. But if when you say it you "see" it--if a movie plays in your mind--question that narrative. 6/
As a co-resident in the Cascadia bioregion, the edict of deadly force against opponents of fascism in Portland is very alarming.

A worthwhile thread here from @jeffsharlet.bsky.social about the stakes of how we describe and respond. Important for Canadians (like me) recalling Vichy France, too.
As you think about how to respond to Portland news, maybe think about dif between rhetoric of Newsom & Pritzker. Newsom mirrored; Pritzker spoke clearly about just how dangerous the moment it is. Do you want to be glib? My argument is that the main agency we have now is precision of language. 1/

replace every politician clamouring to remove protective measures like automated speed cameras.

We need mandatory speed governors, height and weight restrictions for non-commercial vehicles, and income-linked fines for deadly driving.

Opponents need to feel shame and anxiety over these deaths.
In Canada, dangerous drivers kill more than twice as many people than murderers do.

These politicians are monstrous.
In a statement, Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca pivoted from speed cameras to violent crime, suggesting we should spend more time focussing on the latter. That’s illuminating. Vehicles obviously present the bigger statistical threat, especially to children. But we accept those injuries and deaths.
I certainly don’t intend to, at least.
