Another reminder that a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.

ALL ROAD USERS.

And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all.

For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them.

Separated Bike Lanes Means Safer Streets, Study Says — Streetsblog USA
Cities that build protected lanes for cyclists end up with safer roads for people on bikes and people in cars and on foot, a new study of 12 large metropolises revealed Wednesday.

Did it again
The first and most important step when using an oven is to preheat all the pans you store in there to 425.
I still hope to see more of these great little guys around in the future.

As someone who has wasted hundreds (thousands?) of hours of my life working on cars, I appreciate that I can do a front brake job on my cargo bike in about 10 minutes before leaving for the day. It would have taken me longer just to get the jack and jack stands under my old truck. BIcycles FTW.

Render a world in which billionaires become obsolete this Indigenous Peoples Day 🪶
There are many things I am thankful for today. There are many things that I am hopeful for. There are many things I know we must fight for.
Here's to all the wonderful people in my life who strive for justice, equity, and inclusion, on this beautiful treaty land called Mohkinstsis, then Calgary.

The bike rack in front of the TD Bank on 10 St NW had some interesting signage on it yesterday… not sure if it’s still up. 🤔
Clearly some have taken issue with zoning decisions by TW.

GenAI truly was the worst technology to come along at this moment.

An energy and water guzzler when we most urgently need to take climate action.

A disinformation machine as our journalism fails.

A bias machine as fascism takes root.

A job killer in a cost of living crisis.
The "cognitive decline and brain damage from repeat COVID infections" and "easy to use robot that makes slop and melts your critical thinking skills" is a hell of a combo in a post-fact media ecosystem

Salvation Army seen feeding ICE today. For anyone who doesn't already know about their bigotry, here is more, No need to give them your money this Christmas, or ever.
It’s dinner time for the police. Appears to be pizza from a Salvation Army van.

Broadview’s “free speech” curfew starts soon, at 6pm.

The alternative to old bungalows being torn down and replaced by a number of condos or townhomes that costs roughly the same is the old bungalow being torn down and replaced by a large house that costs 3x as much.
This is literally what happened before rezoning

Farkas gave an example from the Glamorgan neighbourhood, where he said $600,000 bungalows
are being torn down and replaced with $750,000 luxury condos.
Glad I took a job in Auburn Bay today to get me out before the blizzard hit!

Deep dive into the surge in US pedestrian deaths:

"It’s not that more pedestrians are getting hit by vehicles; it’s that the ones that are getting hit are more likely to die."

"[That] seems like fairly strong evidence for the theory that the rise in large SUVs is behind the uptick in ped deaths."
Why Are So Many Pedestrians Killed by Cars in the US?
It’s unfortunately not uncommon for pedestrians to be killed by cars in the US.
