The way this poem always makes me go OH.

Also Tara Skurtu is awesome.
Today’s poem is selected by Tara Skurtu (@taraskurtu.bsky.social) as part of the 20th anniversary of Read A Little Poetry.

“The Committee Weighs In” appeared in Furs Not Mine by Andrea Cohen, published by Four Way Books, 2015. Shared here with deep gratitude.
This is the original post for context, which is now obscured because the OP blocked.
KG Haintings@songforhorses.com: Always exciting to be in a coffee shop in Ohio and overhear people complaining that "people treat us like we're hicks!" and agreeing that there's no way they could be confused for "hillbillies" if people only knew "how welcoming and friendly we are, not like *those people*"
Rich people and politicians sure like to cosplay, though!
When my dad moved us to ID it was to a small farm in a rural community. Most of the ppl I've known who would externally "qualify" as a hick were very proud and would not self describe that way. I've never met anyone who describes themselves as one that actually had any relevant cultural markers.
Everyone agrees that hicks exist, but a.) very few people will willingly confess to being one and b.) many of those who do are lying

New, on Heat Death! In the wake of a fragile ceasefire in Gaza, @saulelbein.bsky.social rolls up his sleeves and takes a hard, serious look at Jewish history and the stories we tell about antisemitism — and how our misunderstanding of both leads us badly astray
The Myths of Antisemitism
Is "Jew Hatred" really so eternal?

Zaha (I think based on features, but sorry if I am bamboozled by lack of color) looks so soft and beautiful in this photo.
Right? It is such a funny selling point to me. For some reason, halting the breakdown of nutrients and histamine production is evil.
Any time a YouTuber does a Factor ad and they read the obligatory “never frozen, always fresh” copy, all my MCAS ass hears is a giant record scratch as I grimace in horror. 😂
Excuse me. This is very important!!!
Here's a T. Rex bored to death trying to bite their own tail. My partner asked me to animate it in stop motion, after she watched a video about the very important topic of "could T. Rex chew its own tail like a dog". The puppet is still a work in progress 🦖

Sending you all of my best healing vibes and wishes for a quick recovery.
That photo of the Sawtooths had me cackling. Just how flat Mountain Home is by comparison is very comical.
FIVE years. 😵

But also, what a gem.
Freaky Tales was so fun. And had the added effect of making miss the heck out of Oakland.
😅😅😅

Couldn't be me

(Reader, it is me.)
Me: I just don't understand why I can't just out-think my anxiety and emotions and simply react and respond in the most ideal way every single time and never feel bad

There needs to be more coverage of this in the news. I have read so many stories bout this on Facebook, first hand stories of the terror of that storm, and very little coverage n media.

Screenshot of a Facebook post. Photo is an elderly woman holding a child on her ap on a couch with flood water around them. Both are wearing jackets inside. Text says: This was after our 1st drift.. staying put for awhile. Our 3rd and final drift was terrifying. House moving fast then we started spinning in circles. While we were spinning in circles my oldest daughter was just staring at me while I held onto my younger two. Kipnuk doesn't look like kipnuk anymore, like more than 3/4 of the homes displaced, power poles fallen. It smells like stove oil outside. Contaminated
They are super convenient! It is nice that you have some as a keepsake as well. :)
Thank you! It felt very appropriate for autumn and Halloween. XD And since, next to winter, it is my favorite time of year... 🎃
Also, thank you! ☺️
I haven't sewn anything since I was 10 years old and my mom "helped" me make an outfit to fulfill my 4H requirements. Very proud of myself. lol
Behold! My craft!

Reversible Halloween cross-backed apron so I no longer get paint or oil splatters on my clothes, seasonal party edition.
An apron laid out on a wood floor. It is a black fabric with a white pattern of small crescent moons and botanicals. The pockets are a contrasting fabric which is also black, but with an orange pseudo-damask pattern featuring orange pumpkins, bats, mushrooms, and moths with some gray mushrooms and moths. The back of the apron showing off the criss cross straps. Same apron but reversed. Now the primary fabric is the orange, black, and gray pumpkin, moth, bat, and mushroom pattern. The pockets are the black fabric with white moons, stars, and botanicals. A silly picture of me wearing the apron. I am taking a mirror photo and tossing a peace sign.
Thank you for your appreciation. I am glad to know someone gets me lol
