The best way to end Women in Baseball Week @wibw.bsky.social is Peaches' night at the Rockford Rivets and joining in the excitement for the Women's Baseball World Cup next summer. How cool are these banners?! First pitch is in one year. Set your alarm. @iwbc4me.bsky.social @sabrchicago.bsky.social

NEW @motherjones.com: Nobody in that GOP group chat praising Hitler or making racist comments was a “kid,” as JD Vance claimed today

I tracked down their ages. (Weirdly, it seems nobody else did.)

Eight of the 11 in the group chat range from 24 to 35. Ages of others are unclear.

But… no “kids”!
No one in the GOP Hitler chat was a "kid"
We checked. Sorry, JD Vance.

This headline screams that this regime is bad for business and we will see more of this.
This is it.
AOC: And they are able to radicalize a generation of young boys in particular, away from healthy masculinity and into an insecure masculinity that requires the domination of others who are poorer, browner, darker, or a different gender than them.

(AP) — Dozens of reporters turned in access badges and exited the Pentagon on Wednesday rather than agree to government-imposed restrictions on their work, pushing journalists who cover the American military further from the seat of its power.

1. If you want indie journalism, you gotta pay for it.

2. Paywalls work. I resisted using a paywall for a long time until I realized I had to if I wanted to pay my bills.

3. Journalism is a public good that doesn't exist without public support. Keep it out of billionaire hands with a paid sub.
We do have a paywall, and that's because journalism has a cost. We pay all our contributors 0.50c a word & the founders haven't been compensated for the year, so we do ask for people to pay for our content. We still haven't made a profit this year, so we are unapologetic about that.
Truly horrifying. How much longer will this go on?
The 15 y/o detained by CBP today in the East Side neighborhood has been released per a statement from his attorneys.

Story tk in the morning.
CHICAGO (October 14, 2025) – A 15-year-old American citizen was detained by Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents today in a manner reminiscent of authoritarian regimes, holding him incommunicado in a federal building garage for five hours without informing his family, stating any charges, or allowing him to call an attorney. The teenager, who is Hispanic and African American, was grabbed off a Chicago East Side street at approximately 12:30 p.m. CST slammed to the ground, kneed in the back, and zip-tied by CBP agents. He was then transported to a federal law enforcement facility not affiliated with CBP or ICE, where CBP agents held him, handcuffed, in the back of a vehicle in a garage—never booking him, never reading him his rights, never stating why he was detained, and never allowing him to contact his mother. For five hours, his mother had no idea where her son was or whether he safe. Federal agents provided no information about his whereabouts, no phone call, no explanation for the arrest. His mother’s terror was amplified by her son’s heart condition and the complete absence of any information from authorities.

"This is how people disappear in autocracies—grabbed off streets, held in unmarked locations, no calls to family, no stated charges, no due process," said Founding Partner Antonio M. Romanucci of Romanucci & Blandin, the firm that obtained his release this evening. "A 15-year-old American citizen was effectively 'disappeared' for five hours in Chicago. This is not law enforcement; this is the playbook of authoritarian regimes."

The @chicago.suntimes.com photographer who risked their personal health and safety to take this photograph is Anthony Vazquez. Please credit photographers and media outlets. In this age of misinformation, a photo with no context could be anything at all.
Please remind us who the domestic terrorists are again.
Photo from Chicago: DHS militarized agent holding a gun up directly in someone’s face as the victim has their hands up, pleading for them not to shoot.
Well... if this is true, maybe they should get off the public streets and go into hiding.
Dear journalists, if your source for "credible intelligence" that conveniently advances a Trump administration narrative is someone within the Trump administration, consider seeking independent confirmation before deeming it, in fact, credible.

Students are *banned from the school library* so officials can go ban books.

This is EXACTLY what advocates warned.

DEI just means giving everyone a chance. Anti-DEI just means we continue giving all opportunities to mediocre white men and their pathetic failsons.
This looks so good!
I will certainly keep that in mind. It's so hard to find a good FT job in a public library. I have a podcast where I talk to librarians who don't work in libraries. Maybe this will give him some ideas of other things he can do with his skills. thelibrarianlinkover.com
