Here's why donating/supporting rural states with your PBS/NPR membership is important:

Idaho is a low population state. It's also a mountainous state. So unlike some concentrated urban areas that have one large transmitter that can serve millions, we have to spend a lot on infrastructure. A few dozen signals of ours are mostly in rural areas. (Paraphrased from the transcript)

Health insurance companies are finalizing their rates RIGHT NOW.

Doesn't matter if you're in a red or blue state, your premium might skyrocket.

And somehow, Republican senators are okay with throwing thousands of their own constituents under the bus.

"The American founders expected better leaders than Johnson. They thought Congress would check the president. They didn’t think one branch would surrender completely to another."

This is the whole ballgame, folks.

The authoritarianism will continue until coequal branches decide it will not.

If you put your ear against the Capitol, you can hear the sound of a man who will do nothing to challenge—and anything to justify—presidential violations of the Constitution, as long as the president is of his own party. www.thebulwark.com/p/speaker-mi...

THAT IS NOT THE STORY:

Millions of Americans are protesting Trump's destruction of government, the mistreatment of federal workers and the human rights violations of immigrants and protesters. The upcoming No Kings nationwide protests are Americans exercising their First Amendment right.

Did people see the Mamdani rally where Letitia James got up and told the city, country and the world that the more they come after her, the harder she will fight? And that she supports Mamdani for Mayor of NYC. Great job Letitia James

8/ But Trump doesn't want to end the shutdown. Because he thinks he's a king and he doesn't believe the law applies to him. He thinks he has extra powers in a shutdown. He doesn't.

But the longer Republicans boycott talks, the more the shutdown will hurt. So it's their move.

"We always think about America’s postwar role in Europe as an act of great generosity, the defense of allies from Soviet aggression. But by putting democracy at the center of our international identity, we also helped strengthen our own political system"

The Beacon of Democracy Goes Dark
For nearly 250 years, America promoted freedom and equality abroad, even when it failed to live up to those ideals itself. Not anymore.

The coverage that's been consistently wide, deep and accurate has come from two main sources: @propublica.org and @guardianus.bsky.social. One does long form investigative reporting that is always excellent, but requires an educated readership. The Guardian's stable of reporters is 🥇

I have been watching the devastating videos from friends and colleagues. Some folks are still missing in cold waters. The few news and info sources for locals are also the same ones being cut by federal funding. People should know this is happening

I can’t help but think today about how many young people were savaged on social media, branded as anti-semites and abandoned by their schools for daring to call for a ceasefire. I remember saying that it was the first time I can remember that calling for ceasefire was regarded as a hostile demand.
