Hello, new followers! I'm Lili; I write books, sometimes other people even read them.

This feed holds squirrel stories, the life of a working writer, Morning Walk Reports, random ephemera, and links to articles I find interesting, thought-provoking, or cool.

Nice to have you along.

"The effect of this fake event horizon produced a rise in temperature that matched theoretical expectations of an equivalent black hole system, the team said, but only when part of the chain extended beyond the event horizon."
Physicists Simulated a Black Hole in The Lab, And It Then Began to Glow
A black hole analog could tell us a thing or two about an elusive radiation theoretically emitted by the real thing.

Let's talk about what the process of submitting short fiction used to look like, shall we? And about what it looks like now.

Weaver House, the yarn shop and weaving school that has drawn fiber arts enthusiasts from around the world, announced it will shut its doors for good in December.

Founder Rachel Snack hopes that a weaving or teaching enthusiast might buy these Macomber looms and start their own weaving school.
Are you looking to buy looms? The Weaver House in the Bok building is closing.
The shop owner is looking for a single buyer for the floor looms acquired from the University of the Arts after the school shuttered.

Alright bluesky let's see if we know someone with the right hobby.

I've got some wooden model shipbuilding stuff - passed down - tools, lots of small pieces and parts, guidebooks, a half-built ship, etc.

Is there a forum or such where I could find someone in the area who might want them?

you cannot simply be a good enough person to never slide down that slippery slope, because the slope can start with goodness (see: a lot of people who joined effective altruism thinking it was actually a movement for good)

but you can be a mindful enough person to reduce your own risk profile

Why would a billionaire want a functioning paper? Functioning papers cover shit like “did you know this billionaire makes his workers pee into bottles instead of taking a break” and “you pay way more tax than a guy with ten yachts”

We don't tell young writers "You gotta be a huge freakin' weirdo!" often enough.

It's an asset!

I am so mad because like people love the idea of the Frog being shit posting , but it's actual a deeply contextual response

Meanwhile actual shitposting is about forcing interactions and stringing people along in pointless interactions to deny resources for others

and Zuckerberg knows this

It is cool that the Frankfurt Book Fair (which starts tomorrow) is a major event in 2025 publishing and was a major event in publishing centuries ago. For ex in 1587, one of the hot books at the autumn fair was an anonymous book about Dr Faust printed in time for the fair by Johann Spies. A banger.

Have spent the entire day head-down in work, barely glancing at the news, and it's done me nothing but good.
