Bearing in mind I haven't read the appeal so maybe this wasn't an issue, but: I'm actually slightly surprised there wasn't an appetite from the conservative justices to limit the size of awards. Maybe they just realize Jones is a bad vehicle by which to do it.

one response to this (correct) observation is to say “well, the cops will attack you no matter how you dress and behave.” that’s right. images of cops and ICE beating grandmas and kids in inflatable frog costumes is a win for the opposition.

one of the reasons they're so mad at "no kings" is that they thought they were going to get a different kind of protest. they *want* the black bloc to be out there fighting with the cops. those are the images they've been trying to generate from "go." instead--

I do, actually, understand that they want MORE people involved, but the idea that's just going to happen spontaneously while we are still the most powerful, one of the richest, and one of the most stable countries in the world is just untethered from reality.

I think book deals generally include commitments to publicize the books, like doing talks, presentations, and signings. My guess is this deal would have included just as much given the author’s profile.

I stopped reading halfway through, but everything I did read suggests to me she is focused on positioning for a 2028 run and, imho, being more engaged as an opposition figure would be a better way to do that.

Yep! Cannot stress enough the reason the frog costumes etc are so effective is because they are so ridiculous, giving them a farce when what they want is to recreate 2020 on steroids.
