I always complain about lack of pantry space but I just want like one more shelf. I can’t even imagine filling a walk-in space.
The purpose the small neighborhood corner demonstration serves is to not let people push the current political situation into the back of their minds as they go about their days. If their attention is grabbed by frogs and sharks long enough for them to read the signs and witness, it’s worthwhile.
as charming and whimsical as some will view this, it bears noting that absurdity—not militancy or might—are what people have chosen to repeat from the portland standoffs against ICE.

why is that?

what purpose does this serve?

a mini 🧵:
The Portland Frog army has now infiltrated Tulsa, OK and they’ve made an unlikely alliance with the T-Rex infantry and Sharks on Hoverboards mercenary forces.

This is truly terrifying.

We made up a map of all the donations to our hay campaign from the United States and we almost have the whole country! Does anyone from the grey states want to help us complete it?! donorbox.org/mmfs-2025-ha...
Map of the United States with all of the states colored in different colors according to how many donations they have given. It’s shades of green and blue and purple, except for the states with no donations, which are gray. the states with no donations are Alaska Mississippi Iowa, Oklahoma South Dakota Wyoming, Montana and Delaware.
I have a tab open in my phone browser of a website with a live cam view of the abyss. I’m saving it to look at on Halloween.
No one gazes long into the abyss anymore. They take a picture of it on their phone, intending to gaze into it later, then never get around to it.
Cyndi Lauper WAS my first! Madonna was my second. Still have both!
The album covers of Cyndi Lauper’s She’s So Unusual and Madonna’s self-titled debut, leaning against a white bookshelf. They both feature pictures of the singers.
@bschillace.brandyschillace.com I started THE DEAD COME TO STAY last night and already have my first question for @peculiarbookclub.bsky.social next week! (I have to figure out how to word it concisely though.)
Making banana bread like it’s 2020. Browned the butter, added a bit of fresh pineapple and a pinch of nutmeg. Who would have guessed we would still be needing comfort food five years later?
Sometimes an actor can never escape a certain role which is why, at the end of last night’s WATSON, I yelled “yay! Begbie Sherlock!”

Spotify is running recruitment ads for ICE and their owner is helping to develop military AI. Maybe hit that "cancel my account" button?

Since it's Black Speculative Fiction Month, I thought I'd share a story I love by a Black author each day. Since I'm starting 10 days in, I'll post a bunch to catch up. I'm going to do 15 from the Top 80 of Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy and 15 from Lightspeed/Nightmare.

Re-Animated Music will open later this fall in the old Cowen Park Grocery space (1217 NE Ravenna Blvd), as former employees of The Trading Musician bring an independent music shop back to Roosevelt. A crowdfunding campaign to help with initial costs is halfway to its $40k goal.

I just finally started Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. I made the mistake of re-reading the book right before it came out and it was just too faithful and so I was a bit bored. But now (ten! years later), I am loving it.
This is actually a rule.

Not very unhinged, but: Stop reading a book if you're bouncing off of it. Stop "powering through." You're just wasting your time. You don't get a gold star for finishing books you're not enjoying reading.

There's a truth here. Even now, after all the times when I've reread LOTR, something will suddenly hit or seem fresh the next time through I've never really caught before, whenever that next time is.
Rereading beloved books is better than reading them for the first time.

It’s definitely additive. You get the general positive feeling of nostalgia, plus the comfort of familiarity, and then add in these small bits of newness/reinterpretation and it’s what makes rereading so worthwhile!

It is beyond weird that it isn't an annual tradition for Peacock to put every single Universal Monsters movie on their streaming platform for the Halloween season.

Did you know Harbor seals are opportunistic predators? This means when octopus are locally abundant they become a food source for hungry seals. While the realities of nature aren’t always pretty, the interconnected relationships species maintain are essential for healthy self sustaining ecosystems.

There is no way forward for Democrats that does not involve examination, prosecution and restitution of and for the acts committed by this administration in the last 9 months, and that is going to be hard and unpleasant and, sometimes, very politically unpopular.
