It's important to track how many citizens are kidnapped by ICE. But I'll keep hammering the point that it simply does not matter if someone is native-born or undocumented — NO ONE deserves to be brutalized by glorified rent-a-cops in a fascist state. There are no "innocent" victims. Just victims.

remote work is like birth control or UBI atp where there’s overwhelming research consensus they improve quality of life for people they apply to, yet access is impeded or blocked by the ruling class because the thought of marginalized ppl having rich full lives makes steam come out their ears
2. Rolling Stone is owned by a large media conglomerate, which is ending remote work across its brands.

My home is Portland, Oregon, ~1,000 miles from the nearest office, so this marks the end of the line for me at RS.

I read this and it feels like accessibility will be the ultimate patsy when they reverse course and throw away much of what they are trying to force into everything now.

And I'll be clear... IMHO, if they truly cared about accessibility, everything would already be more accessible.

Why no general strike?

Please ask how long you are willing to strike from your current job? Are you an at-will employee? How much savings do you currently have?

I'm not trying to be a dick.

But they picked two fat republicans for a bunch of jokes when the young republicans said the worst shit imaginable.

My fat ass is out there fighting for what's right.

Stop equating fat with bad or less. Stop telling ME I'm one annoyance away from being your target.
Two-fat white men in suits.

If we attach a turbine, they can power millions of homes
David Simon, the writer behind The Wire and The Deuce (and a former journalist for the Baltimore Sun), finds only the blackest humor in Weiss's ascent to the top of the news heap. When asked for his perspective, Simon replied via email, "Murrow and Cronkite have both interrupted their peaceful mouldering, and are now revolving at such speeds that never mind the affront to televised journalism
—we need to consider the geologic risks to us all."
(Don't worry any rock nerds looking at this, I'm aware that not all gemstones are quartz but with a slightly more interesting element. Just...A fair number of the big names are.)
Balancing my understanding that value is a combination of rarity + elements in the stone composition + how long a human had to spend working on the stone with the urge to go, "YOU'RE ALL JUST QUARTZ. Except you amber and petrified wood."
Studying up on my stones and stone types the way many beaders and jewelry crafters do: Staring at fire mountain gems listings trying to figure out which gemstones seem the most affordable.

Not even gonna bother clicking on the ruby section lol.

I try not to repost news from Meidas because, and this is important, they click bait and rage bait and honestly I don't think any of us need that shit.

You'll also want to immediately hit up your moderation settings and make sure they are how you want them. Muting words is super important, because the Following Feed doesn't have an algo- you will get the firehose.
And hey, if there's any recruiters for Spanish companies on here...I'm a tech artist who is very open to living in Madrid and optimizing your games. Just need someone willing to sponsor a work visa.

“Physician payments” might make this sound less serious than it is.

150M Americans are covered by Medicare & Medicaid (CMS), close to half of all healthcare coverage. 98% of hospitals accept CMS, and the majority rely on it because it’s the biggest insurer by far. (And healthcare is 20% of US GDP.)
Well. Inbox is now full of "Thanks for applying" emails. Time to see if any of them get me at the very least to the first interview.

If the other side is hopeless, then you all really and truly need to finally acknowledge how bad things are over here.

White Dem leadership will not listen to us. It’s up to you all to make the noise that fixes the issues within our party.

It’s up to the whites.

It has been laid down.

You need to pick it up.
White people need to talk to other white people. It is entirely up to the whites to move the needle on their end.

Let me be clear: racism and antisemitism are rampant on *both* sides of the aisle.

Your twentysomething niece has fallen for the okie doke just as easily as your Boomer uncle.
And FINALLY, here's my ko-fi if you appreciated the thread and have the funds to spare for a tip! These sorts of mega threads do take time, and yet it's a format I enjoy working in!

Anyways I hope this blog post of a thread sharing the additional context I think is fair to have regarding Proton is helpful! Again, I'm not saying Proton is necessarily bad. Who knows, maybe I'll look into it.

But it's still good to have more context on things given today's tech ecosystem!
Oh and definitely don't be late on any of that paperwork. Lateness will not be tolerated. Neither will being early weirdly enough.

But uh, yeah, any subpoena is going to be going through more layers that wouldn't even be worth it given the crumbs of data Proton even has.
Which...A cultural piece missing for Americans is HOLY SHIT DOES SWITZERLAND LOVE BUREACRACY. Almost as much as it enjoys staying "neutral".

Even if the American government goes via the international route, lol, there's definitely lots of paperwork and bureacracy.
All that to say...The proton ecosystem isn't going to automatically give your data to demogogues in power. In fact the CEO does seem to dislike governments having troves of people's data.

However. It will provide *non-encrypted* data if subpoenaed within the proper channels.
By that I mean, the CEO can have his opinions and all that, but those can happen OVER THERE AWAY FROM THE BRAND AND PREFERABLY IN WAYS THAT ARE EXTREMELY SUBTLE.

There's pros and cons to this model, but one pro is it implies structure to keep things as neutral as possible.
I do think that because we haven't heard much from the proton CEO in the months since, and even this interview isn't that blatant about anything, the company's lawyers and HR did grab a hold of this guy in a way where he listened.

Which means Proton is how companies traditionally have been.
