Everyone thought the Russian military was nearly unbeatable, but Putin destroyed leadership by installing loyalists, and without quality leadership they are inept. What do you think will happen to the U.S. military with Trump doing the same? The most bombs and bullets doesn't make you competent.

Danish leaders need to accept that the US is no longer Denmark's partner. Maybe it will be again; I certainly hope so. But the Trump administration has no interest in leadership. Its sole goal is to dominate.
We have always been a very transatlantic country. We have always accepted US leadership. For us it has been natural. That is why it is so important to make our partners in the #US understand that there is a difference between dominance and leadership. Leadership is okay." @donald-tusk.bsky.social

What should be needless to say: the US and NATO have no right or ability to agree to anything concerning Greenland's mineral wealth without Greenland's (and Denmark's) consent.
Greenland's mining minister has rejected U.S. attempts to carve up her island's mineral resources, saying no external power should decide the fate of the Arctic territory's vast natural wealth.
Greenland to Trump: Hands off our minerals
A deal between the U.S. and NATO shouldn’t touch Greenland’s minerals, says minister.

First the Danes and now the Swedes.

I could easily imagine Trump (ie, his non-insane aides) creating a Board of Peace that looks enough like an actual organisation journalists would take it seriously. This is not that Board. If you want to cosplay legitimacy, you don't invite Putin, Lukashenko, Netanyahu et al to join.

This is a very important thread. The whole "it's a new UN" narrative is profoundly flawed. The Board of Peace has no actual power beyond the power of its individual members. So at most it is a new type of alliance between some of the worst human beings on earth -- deeply problematic but nothing new.
Reports suggest the UN will be rivalled by a "Board of Peace". But it's important to consider what this all means.

The UN, and the UN Charter, are referenced and reinforced by thousands, if not tens of thousands, of multilateral and bilateral treaties between states.

So...

It's not abhorrent, it's a good thing. It makes undeniably clear that the Board is simply a tool for Trump to amass even more power (and the riches that come with it). Not even American "journalists" like Bari Weiss will be able to pretend the Board is actually about peace.
It's abhorrent that Netanyahu (and Putin, Xi, and Orban) have been invited to the "Board of Peace" for Gaza.

One silver lining? Netanyahu won't make it to Davos to join the Board in person because he fears arrest and surrender to the #ICC. www.newarab.com/news/netanya...

What's great about Politico is that they don't even need to know what the deal looks like to conclude it's a "huge win for Rutte."

You can call #ICE monsters, but they would take it as a compliment.

The question isn't why credibly-accused war criminals are invited to join the Board. The question is whether the Board will include anyone who is not a credibly-accused war criminal.
Benjamin Netanyahu, wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes against humanity, will join Trump's Board of Peace.

This was the worst case scenario when the UN Security Council authorized this travesty. Sickening.

Here is the full transcript of Trump saying he isn't planning to use force in Greenland.

What stands out to me is the incoherence of his comments: there are so many internal contradictions in this short passage that it's hard to treat as a credible renunciation of violence.
