I just checked and this is real. It's on Border Patrol's official Instagram (I don't see it on Facebook) and is being celebrated by Nazis on Twitter, as you can see in the screenshot.

The clip is just 13 seconds long too, so it's a very intentional thing. We've got a Nazi government.

There's a very weird dynamic about political reporting as the most prestigious round, with its own institutions and culture, that set up this sort of behaviour.

Success is defined by personal glory, and glory is defined by ritualised gotchas. The bigger picture doesn't come into it.

But the latest iteration of slop-based AI apocalypses are much more akin to grey-goo apocalypses - a class of apocalypses where we're not even special enough to be Judged. We're just kinda just trampled accidentally by cockroaches.

Anyway, I miss the optimism of AI God, is what I'm saying.

I used to really enjoy apocalyptic fiction as morality tales. Basically, "Sodom and Gomorrah and then the zombies came".

AI apocalypses often fit into that mold. Either "AI God sees us and finds us unworthy" or "AI is humanity's greed and wrath made immortal and omnipotent"...

I think the way the UI is framed as "instructions" (as opposed to "set context") subtly lies to people about what is happening, and creates the illusion that instructions are Asmovian rules (which we're already primed to believe, based on a century of robot fiction)...
