I do feel bad, because we're in the home stretch (or maybe gauntlet) now -- we go dark Oct 30 and supposed to be back live on new system Nov 6 -- and everything feels way behind and completely fucked up.

I shouldn't have contributed to their stress in that way but I lost my patience a bit.

I can't just guess what properties and values to use to define "current member" or "past purchaser of x product" like...!!! The data structure in the new CRM is completely different!

I cleared my calendar to do this testing then couldn't because I didn't have what I needed.

I raised my voice in a meeting today because my dev team/IT director said we need to start testing the HubSpot integration with our new CRM now, but I have been asking them for *two weeks* for data definitions so we know what objects/properties/values to use to create segments & reports.

7 "Whistlemania" meetups are happening Tuesday night across Chicago. Here’s how to join them: blockclubchi.co/46PIk2O

Still waiting to get our city lead testing results back but I'm gonna assume I'm exposed to more lead than the average American because I know we have a lead service line. 🫠

I find the artificial sweeteners (and stevia) in most protein powders disgusting so for me it's either Fairlife Core Power shakes if I need quick and easy, or plain Bob's Red Mill almond protein to add to smoothies, which is *just* almonds. No idea if either of those are ok.

my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

CR tests of 23 popular protein powders and shakes found that most contain high levels of lead.

But if you could get enough data it would be really interesting to see the geospatial elements of where/who they are hitting most and how they are moving over time.
karenkaz.com
I won't (my Esri access is thru work) but it would be interesting. I think you'd have to account for the bias in only showing new/media-covered events, somehow - see @sorenspicknall.bsky.social and @unraveledpress.com's recent posts about things happening on the south/SW sides that aren't covered.

Oh man, this timeline is a great idea but makes the planning nerd in me want to create an ArcGIS storymap for it.

The Federal government has attacked Chicago but Chicagoans are doing a great job documenting what is happening. However, I do not feel that there is a solid timeline of key events forming, and so I put one together

Here is a 🧵with details on each, including sourcing and videos. AMA
A timeline I have put together to document key monents in the attack on Chicago:

6/16/2025 : Limited but heavily militarized and anonymized ICE activity
9/19/2025 : Broadview Escalation: 9/22/2025: Broadview: More chemical irritant use:
9/23/2025: Silverio Villegas González Murdered
9/26/2025: Broadview Scrum 1: Vehicular Violence and indiscriminate chemical irritants
9/30/2025: South Shore Raid
10/3/2025: Logan Square Tear Gassed
10/3/2025: Broadview Scrum 2: ISP+ crowd control; Deliberate attack on protesters by ICE while filming for content, Dan Bovino
10/3/2025: Arrested Alderman
10/4/2025: Brighton Park Stand Off
10/10/2025: WGN Producer Aggressively Arrested under suspicious reasons, no charge
10/12/2025: Albany Park Standoff

Once again: this is also happening in DC. Still.

It feels like we’ve been forgotten, maybe because there aren’t huge confrontations to run photos of. But our neighbors are still being taken every day. Routine traffic stops are now done by 12+ feds alongside local police.

Please talk about us too.

"Residents in Chicago and Portland are living in a police state where masked armed forces kidnap who they want to kidnap, where they have to listen to public officials routinely lie about what is happening in their neighborhoods." donmoynihan.substack.com/p/purge-merg...

Federal Secret Police and plainclothes ICE agents kidnap multiple people from a neighborhood in Chicago. They then deploy teargas and brutally beat neighbors who come out to express their concern.

For those worried I might only be relying on helmet lights, my bike also has lights and I'm often wearing one of these so believe me when I say that I like to be well lit lol www.noxgear.com/Tracer2

What I like about the Giro/integrated lights:
1. Fuller coverage for colder temps
2. Dial adjustment to fit different hats underneath
3. I'm very short, so helmet lights help me feel visible high enough up for tall cars
4. Only have to charge 1 helmet vs 2 separate lights (front and rear)
karenkaz.com
Taking recommendations for a helmet with integrated lights that *isn't* the Giro Escape MIPS.
karenkaz.com
You know, it really sucks for a $150 helmet with integrated lights to have such a poorly designed charging port that the port breaks in less than 3 years. Still functional as a helmet but there's no way to charge the lights. (Warranty is only for 1 year, so I guess I'm buying a new one.)

I and my cubital tunnel/ulnar nerve are currently seeking recommendations for a kindle holder (for sitting on the couch, not in bed) and page turner.

I’ve been trying to get both of these things fixed for years. I mention it every time I see a doctor and we go through my meds/conditions.
karenkaz.com
Medical charts are wild and seemingly impossible to correct, because someone once erroneously entered my taking Allegra for seasonal allergies as an allergy *to* Allegra and when I went in for the colonoscopy last week there was a giant red ALLERGY bracelet for me to wear.

My local Walgreens once used my human health insurance to fill my dog’s prescription and now every time I go to the doctor they ask “so are you still taking the telmisartan?”
anjalikdayal.bsky.social
Did you know if you get a prescription for your dog filled through CVS, CVS will send every text message about the prescription addressed to your dog with (dog) in parentheses

Don't recommend accidentally applying 10% AHA lotion to a 2nd degree burn, y'all.
karenkaz.com
Somehow gave myself a really good burn pulling a tray out of the oven while wearing oven mitts (touched my inner upper arm with the edge of the tray.) because of my tattoos I couldn’t see exactly where it was at first but now there’s a patch of peeling skin 😬

Even the Ring (as in doorbell/security system) app has a Neighbors section and it's a lot of "🧊 at the Menards/Walmart/Home Depot be safe!"

Love to be sitting here 13 days into the fiscal year, 3 days before we get charged a monthly fee for a Saas platform we've been trialing, with no idea if the budget request for the (cheaper) annual plan was approved.
