Taking out her pipe, she firmly prodded a wad of tobacco into the bowl and started to walk toward the building at the far end of the docks that, according to Welling, had recently come under the, supposedly legitimate, ownership of Felonious Flaviah after the previous owner had suffered a terrible accident and then a surprisingly sudden windfall. The flint and steel sparked in the gloom and she heard the unmistakeable sound of people realising they had allowed someone far too close and were probably going to soon regret being so lax.

“Stop right there!” One lad peered through the mists. He held up a sword, as though proving it existed. “We’re armed.”

“Good for thee.” She puffed the pipe to life, smoke mingling with the curling strands of fog that she hoped made her look more than a little supernatural. Criminals were a superstitious lot. Some were cowardly, the rest too stupid to realise when they were about to receive a good hiding. “Tell Flaviah that Murple Hurkull is here to see her.”

The protagonist has the most love to give (and is also the character most likely to freely give it, being so young), which makes her the ideal companion (platonic) for the antagonist (the one who needs love the most). This is probably part of why their dynamic works so well. 💜 #Lovember

Nov 4 : Steel..

Blue street lights floated over his dashboard, the waves of shadows quickened. He didn’t eye the speed gauge, ascending the highway, the skyline grew on the horizon. Black steel towers lifted, as frozen arms pointed at the stars.
The dead returned to him, the weight of bullets, the feeling of crushing bones and making men scream before they die.
The wheel hummed in his hands, all it would take is a swift turn and it could end, he thought. I won’t have to miss her anymore. That night with Margaret resurfaced, scowling at the thought of never seeing her again, he kicked the pedal down and opened the windows. Violent wind rushed in, a steady hiss blowing against his naked ears.
The hairs of his beard whipped with each gust, he screamed. The children had nothing to do with anything, not now, not a hundred years ago. He shouted, voice cracked. I was going to take my only child right into their hands.
“How? How?!” he roared, pounding the dashboard.

Midmorning on a dead-end road is just as quiet as one would expect, most especially when that midmorning is in early November with a forecast of mostly cloudy. Filmy sunbeams didn’t make it to the mattress or its box-spring support, and Nanette wouldn’t have noticed for hours except her cell phone began to ring. Even on a good day, Nanette hated nothing more than being woken up by the phone, not to mention being woken up by a phone call from, Ken, her ex-husband. Her cell phone tinkled with some classic Victorian strain, preloaded on the phone because damn figuring out downloading and changing ringtones on these supposed “smart” phones. It’s not as if Nanette had some disposition to boring old classical music, but it was the least annoying of the chimes provided.
“God, why?” She tossed sarcastically at the ceiling before answering her phone. “Yeah?”
“Nice to hear your voice, too, Nanette,” Ken said.

If they survive the story, Barus would sit there, moping while Alex rolls tobacco. The entire podcast will consist of the sounds of lighters clicking and silence. Despite the fact that they're famous and would die for each other. They can't find a reason to talk for an hour straight, also PTSD.

This feels weird to say but I think the antagonist needs love the most. Whether he's capable of it himself is up for debate, but he does actively seek it out in others, buying affection with lofty (often false) promises and over-the-top gifts, if necessary. He can't exist without admirers. #Lovember

About publishing I have absolutely no clue as of yet but I'm leaning on traditional. Djibouti has no publishing houses, so I'll have to do my research in this giant pond.

Helen knows Rosie means well, she does. But this is not what she wants to hear. Sometimes this community, this obligation to others, feels like a pressure she cannot carry. She remembers this after Ali’s funeral. The wake at the Plough, the singing, the drunken hugs and tears. She remembers how she sat there at a table, wondering how long she had to stay, how long was polite to endure this before she could go home. Just as Rosie says, the community needs an outlet as well, a coming together to grieve. Often, she feels as if the individual comes second to the community, which obviously, philosophically, morally, it does, in her view of the world. But sweet Jesus, she needs alone time as well, needs to focus on her healing too, before she enters the community circle jerk around these things. This unkind attitude makes her think there is a part missing in her, a sensitivity chip, that other people have which allows them to grieve en masse, to lean on each other, to carry the weight of collective pain. That they are nicer than she is, that she is selfish, self-absorbed, unfit in some way. She realises that this is why she loves big cities; she loves the anonymity of them, loves being able to walk down the street without anyone giving a shit who she is. In a city, she feels free. She feels she doesn’t have to be the Helen seen by others; she can be her Helen, whoever and whatever that is at a given moment.
