Did you know the first thanksgiving celebrated by Europeans in North America happened in Canada?
Or that the Indigenous celebrated autumn harvests long before Europeans arrived?
Why do we celebrate Thanksgiving a month earlier than the United States?
This is the story.

🧵1/10
A festive Thanksgiving dinner table featuring a roasted turkey as the centerpiece, surrounded by an array of dishes including green beans, stuffing, sliced ham, and a pumpkin pie. The table is decorated with pumpkins, sunflowers, candles, and autumnal flowers, with wine glasses and plates set for a meal.

Canada has a long history of being surprisingly provincial. However, relinquishing digital sovereignty without a fight represents a strategic misstep in the broader project of nation-building, as technological autonomy increasingly shapes economic security, cultural identity, & political legitimacy.

Pope to journalists: “…it is worth remembering Hannah Arendt’s warning that ‘the ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the convinced Communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction and the distinction between true and false no longer exist.’”

“The first tipping of widespread dieback of warm water coral reefs is already under way.”

Already impacting hundreds of millions of people who depend on reefs

Report points to reefs in the Caribbean, where marine heatwaves, low diversity and disease outbreaks have pushed reefs “towards collapse”.

As a former journalist, I couldn’t agree more. As a Canadian, as polite as we are, there comes a time when diplomacy isn’t an option. The truth is, the U.S. is no longer our ally, let alone our friend. We have to acknowledge and be thankful for what we have and defend that. Elbows way up! 🇨🇦💪

CBS reporter Edward R. Murrow embodied what a journalist should be: someone who holds power to account instead of capitulating to it.

Over 70 years later, his segment denouncing Joe McCarthy’s congressional witch hunts rings truer than ever.

Two of the most common climate misconceptions I see, even among knowledgeable folks, are that (1) most people aren't worried about climate change, and (2) if they were, they'd act.

Not true! Data show (1) most people are worried, but (2) they won’t act if they don’t know what to do-and most don’t.
A map of the world showing how levels of worry in most countries are greater than 70%. Source: Yale Program on Climate Change Communication, International Public Opinion on Climate Change, 2023.

“With your patient and rigorous work, you can act as a barrier against those who, through the ancient art of lying, seek to create divisions in order to rule by dividing,” he said. “You can be a bulwark of civility against the quicksand of approximation and post-truth...”

Purge - eliminating those deemed not to be aligned with Trump.

Merge - combine different components into a single omniforce.

Surge - impose Trump’s control over Democratic cities; instigate enough unrest to justify escalation; find examples to brutalize and tamp down any dissent.

Greed.

Doesn't he realize his grandkids will inherit this mess?
His greed is far more important than his grandkids future though.

This is a sickness. Human sickness.
We really need to address.
Or we all die together.

China has mistakenly thought the European Union could play a greater and more independent role in world affairs, not necessarily to tilt towards Beijing but to stop being a lapdog to Washington

Canada is also still the lapdog of Trump - no thanks to Carney.

Private schools are welfare bums.

As businesses they should sink or swim in the marketplace.

No tax dollars for kids of the elite.

"I think it's wrong to have the highest rate of funding for private schools in a province where we have the lowest rate of funding for public schools," the Calgary teacher said in an interview on Tuesday.
I agree.

“Good leaders combine personal humility, self-knowledge and the ability to learn,” Carney wrote in Values. “That means admitting mistakes, seeking and accepting feedback and sharing the lessons. When leaders become overconfident they stop learning.”

Canada will judge.
